Yes, but they were very Australian and Adam moved straight back after his career.God is an Englishman wrote:Both of the Hollioakes' parents were English. Re: England WC 2018 Squad
English cricket chasing foreigners in the 90s was plain embarrassing and a complete failure. It was only when the ECB finally pulled it’s head out of it’s muscat and put real effort into developing their own players did success come. The South African Pieterson had to serve a 4 year qualification period living in England to qualify to play for England. In cricket a British passport holder has to live for a certain period in the home country he wants to play for.Nicky_Tanner wrote:I see where you are coming from, but England have had many players from other cricket playing nations - players pick and choose too easily. And Woodburn is Welsh through family isn't he? Nothing to do with where he has lived - which is not Wales.N5 1BH wrote:Cricket is played by a handful of countries and has a complex eligibility system to try to grow the game in associate countries. Though even it does not allow a player who has played for one country at youth level to play for another until after a 4 year qualifying period and the likes of Woodburn would have to actually live in Wales if he wanted to play for them.Nicky_Tanner wrote:
As my teachers used to put in red to me, 'please explain'.
Football is played by every country so growth is not the issue, strength in depth is. Invest in fly in fly out foreign mercenaries from EPL/Bundesliga/Ligue 1 or invest in your own people. One allows corrupt and/or lacklustre associations to achieve the level of competent mediocrity that is suffocating international football, the other inspires like Belgium or Iceland.

KP has an English mother, so he's definitely English. However, you're right about the qualification period. Even English people have to serve it.N5 1BH wrote:English cricket chasing foreigners in the 90s was plain embarrassing and a complete failure. Lallana is not fit enough IMO. He has not really played this season, sadly. We have missed him more than Phil.ozzie owl wrote:Surely Lallana should have been picked over Welbeck?Raich Carter wrote:The problem with Wilshere is he's made of blancmange....nathanburns15 wrote:Bit harsh on Wilshere, thought he done enough to get in. Milner should DEFINTELY be in the squad. But has already retired.Con M wrote:New Name Not Needed, were you surprised that very versatile Liverpool player, James Milner wasn’t included by Plodder Southgate?
Lallana injured. Barely played all season. Sucks for him but the decision makes sense.

Good to see Harry Kane get the captaincy ahead of Jordan Henderson.

I generally prefer a central defender or the 6 to be the captain, only because the game is all in front of them, but each to his own.Allez Allez Allez wrote:Henderson was actually given it, but Kane took it off him.ozzie owl wrote:Good to see Harry Kane get the captaincy ahead of Jordan Henderson.

Re: England WC 2018 Squad
Welbeck brings experience and goals . He has scored more than Kane and scored more than Vardy, Rashford & Sterling combined. Welbeck 38 games 15 goals, sterling 38 games 2 goalsozzie owl wrote:Just don't see what Wellback adds to the squad.Nugget wrote:Milner should DEFINTELY be in the squad. i haven't read the link but clearly you don't get the Kane joke. Awesome goal by Rashford and was the best attacking player for England and on last nights performance Henderson should start ahead of Dier for the opening WC game.Bomber wrote:So a bit of a struggle, much like the club side that plays there.ozzie owl wrote:England v Costa Rica at Elland Road Thursday evening is the third time England have played there.
