No Netherlands and no Italy

Post by God is an Englishman »

Yet Peru or NZ and australia or Honduras will make it though.

I know which two teams from that 6, I'd rather watch in a world cup.
West Adelaide Soccer Club president Alex Alexandrou said the club was still in a position to be playing and training at the new ground either by the end of the 2015 season or in 2016.

The world cup should have the best teams in the world in it, not teams just making up the numbers.

Pedantic hat on, holland might make the next world cup but I'd think catalonia have more of a chance.

I think the same was said about the following....

Iceland
United States 1-0 England -- 1950 World Cup
Norway 2-1 England -- 1982 World Cup qualifier
etc etc

but its not just about England....Italy lost to North Korea....Denmark and Greece winning European Championships etc etc

Denmark were always a good side. Underdog story because of the way it happened but it was an 8 team tournament. Hardly mind blowing that they would win.

You are 100% correct.

However, it is not possible for moderators to make me move it.

Just had a great suggestion from a facebook post.

All the automatic places stay the same.

All the play off spots all go in together. Put all the European teams in one hat and all the others (which was 6, so add in 2 more) in another hat. Winner goes to the world cup. You will still get a WORLD tournament but the best teams will get in, not also rans from other places.

Why have separate hats? Throw them all in one hat and draw playoffs from that.

so you can't have teams from the same confederation playing each other, also it means UEFA would then get 4 more spots.

Is it one for every world cup you've not been in and one for every real world cup you've won.

Time to add a new star.

Don't separate qualifying via regions to start with.

Because of the issues with travelling I would say keep qualification as it is apart from the play offs. Play offs become a world play off but no team can play another from the same confederation.

Peru are ranked 10th in the world. NZ were the only team not to lose a game last world cup yet Brazil lost 7-1 in a game.

think it adds something different with the minnow being involved and good for development in those countries to improve and be more competitive against the big guns.

Australia were unlucky to lose to the Netherlands in one of the games of the tournament

agree with the playoffs, would be like a miniature WC? best teams from go through regardless of how many from each region? (i.e they could all be from Europe and none from Asia, etc)

would still not prevent the situation we have now where Italy and Netherlands are out and Australia are in.

Why send money & time on qualifying when each continent has its own championship already, best ranked teams get in-simple & cheap.

You would have a pot of 6 UEFA top seeds and another pot of 2 UEFA, 1 AFC, 1 CONCACAF, 1 CONMEBOL and 1 OCEANiA.
Then you would draw 6 playoffs from there. Much fairer than the current system.
Netherlands would still miss out, but that's tough cabernet if you finish 3rd.

Sounds like the "big teams" are a bit scared of losing to the "not so big teams".

One day they might wake up and understand that this makes the World Cup special and open to all sorts of results, including all sorts of upsets.

Heaven forbid the "big teams" are protected in any way........
