I agree that it's sunk to a new low, but it's still a fair way down to the HAL.

Not that much. I couldn't see Partick Thistle or Hamilton Accies, for example, coming all that close to a Sydney FC especially if played over here.

Do they have VAR at UCL matches. Softest of penalties to Chelsea but the send off following it was a disgrace. Last man maybe.

Yeah, I thought the same as you eagleboy.

I thought it had been watered down to penalty & yellow card for non-violent denying of a goal-scoring opportunity, not red. Far too harsh to punish that with a red on top of the penalty.

The ref was a mug and should be sent off to read up all the UEFA & IFAB deliberations on this type of incident.

You thought wrong then. Again.
The previous 'triple-punishment' rule required a red card - and therefore a suspension - as well as the award of a penalty under those circumstances.

However, players committing accidental fouls that deny a goalscoring chance will now be cautioned instead.

But deliberate fouls will still incur a red card.

So, if the ref thought there was no chance of winning the ball and it was deliberate, the red card is the right response.

You might be the mug here

Yes people sure have a short memory. Only last season Arsenal capitulated to Bayern Munich 10-1 on aggregate over two games. Arsenal are in a better class of league hence they have better players (than Celtic) and more importantly they play against top players week in week out. Not defending Celtic in that they should compete better but was honestly expecting a drubbing though not by that margin. As already stated Celtic are a decent side until they are up against the big guns of Europe (though we always compete well with the English clubs in general). Man City apart, the EPL has no outstanding side IMO. Man Utd, Chelsea, Spurs, Liverpool and Arsenal are the great pretenders at the minute.
Brendan Rodgers will become a legend at Celtic and I believe he is there for the long run. The acid test is to see how much he can improve in the top European flight in the coming seasons and to compete against a stronger rivalry from Ibrox.
Personally I am against the gloating aspect of dominating an inferior opponent, namely Rangers who are doing it tough at the moment. I would much rather win 3-2 against a good Rangers side than hammer them 5-1 in a canter. The demise of Rangers has not been a good thing for Scottish football. I would say they are not out of the woods yet due to poor decisions by the powers that be.
The finances that secure Celtic's dominance in Scottish football works against them in Europe- we know how the Hamilton Accies and Partick Thistle fans (amongst others) feel when we hammer them. Tough gig in the elite of European football nowadays if you don't have SERIOUS money to spend.

Had a feeling of Dejavu when I turned it on and we were 3-0 up at half time against a team in white with red trim!

Please stick to the subject, this has nothing to do with the UCL group stages.
