They're sure as hell not going to win anything with Nigeria, but then they probably won't with England either until the FA changes its ways.

Still not a reason to give them a full cap though, not fair to them or to England.

Rather see Abraham given a run than Defoe and Sturridge.

Henderson was even worse last night against Lithuania , surely time to be dropped.

Winks was the shining light and IMO best on ground.

Southgates new 3-4-3 formation was confusing as well as it seemed to take Ali and Rashford out of the game.

This was a dead rubber and there were changes in personnel and formation, so I'm not going to read too much into the performance and I expect we'll see more experiments in the coming friendlies.

I'd hate to hang all England's woes on one player, but Southgate needs to decide who he wants as his single holding mid. Personally, I'd pick Dier over Henderson, he's used to playing with Walker, Rose, Alli, Kane (and Winks if he plays), I think he's better defensively than Hendo and he does at least try to move the ball a bit quicker (although not always successfully tbf).

Just think, but for Harry Kane's late equaliser it could have been so different

How dare Southgate try something different in a nothing game. He gave some young players their debuts, he tried something different.

Some people are never happy.

Northern Ireland getting through - good on them.

The Ireland V Wales game is going to be a big one especially seeing Bale is out with an injury I believe.

NI into the play-offs so no guarantees that they will qualify.

ah ok I thought it was top 2 - I hope they get through as they always add to a WC tournament

Top team automatic, best 8 from 9 runner ups into a play off.

On a positive note, good to See England getting through with the dour brand of football we know and love. I always have a good laugh at the media who will no doubt install them as the team to beat only to see them crash and burn

How many games have you watched?

You're right though, it has been dour. Southgate wants them playing like Spain, when we should be playing like England. Fast pace, physical etc... If we're not going to win then we should at least go out on our terms playing real football.

This is my pet hate. The assumption that England fans or media expect something. Every tournament opposition fans whinge about "cocky" England fans and media but it is the opposite. England fans expect them to get dumped out of the group stages and they nearly always oblige.

Southgate said today England will definatelt use three at the back for Russia 2018. He feels best formation to get the most oput of the players he has.

As Spurs have shown, it's actually not a bad system if you lack brilliant midfielders as it enables you to play 3-5-2 or 3-4-2-1 and at least get plenty of numbers in the middle, but you do need to have mobile centre halves and you don't really need wingers as such. If Rose and Walker are fit, England have two decent wingbacks, but Stones, Cahill, Keane as the defence could be a bit of a worry, hopefully we'll find out in the next couple of friendlies. Stick Dier in to screen in front of them, play Kane up front with Alli and possibly Rashford behind him. Despite him being a Goon, I'd always pick Wilshere if he's fit and probably Lallana for the other spot and it's actually a fairly attacking eleven.

I'd rather us lose trying to win, than meekly park the bus and still go out, but I'm not sure Southgate has the cojones to take that risk.

Holland beat Sweden 2-0 this morning but missed out on making the next stage to Sweden on goal difference - 7 goals so they were never going to go through.

Results get you through, not style.

What is the current English style?
