Read a book a while back about a bloke who has sentenced to time in jail in the states and he'd never even been there. Caused problems when he was released as he'd never entered the country, yet there he was.

Was always going to happen. Blatter has carefully cultivated (some allege, bribe ) all the smaller football federation members (i.e. all those that could possibly be bought) to vote for him. Nearly all the major countries, like UEFA members, cannot stand him. It's ridiculous that countries like Benin, Cape Verde, Bhutan and the Cook Islands get the same number of votes (1 each) as Brazil, Italy, Germany etc.

There's talk now that European teams, along with others, might boycott the WC in protest. Personally, I doubt it, although if they did fund their own "World minus Blatter Cup", it would have all the decent teams and all the sponsors behind it. FIFA would then become irrelevant.

The breakaway has to happen now.

Pity Lowy voted for him 4 years ago and also voted to not delay the vote at that time. England have been leading way against Blatter for too long on their own, good to see other countries finally waking up.

You might be right about 2018 and, IMO, Russia is not the worst place to hold a WC, however I have a feeling that 2022 award might well be investigated and rescinded.
