Going to be harder for aussies to play in England

Post by God is an Englishman »

new proposals would make it impossible for australians to get a work permit to play football in England.

Players from countries not ranked in the top 50 will be unable to get a work permit.

Stricter controls on having more "home grown" players in the squad as well.

A good start but until we move out of EU, we cannot have the controls on our borders we require.

Haven't you been paying attention on here, rankings and results don't matter when it comes to the socceroos.

There is a plan.
"I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. That's why I succeed." -Michael Jordan

As long as the plan involves not playing in England

Better off in Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Netherlands in any case, thus probably doing them a favour. Learn proper football, instead of the other stuff.

I think that's the problem with the England national team, none of their players play in technically tough leagues.

Tough defensively, every time you played Real, Barca, Athletico and Valencia at least.

Champions League draw suggests the teams in Spain are very good.

Depends on which definition of tough you want to use.

In this instance, tough = "a high standard"

What does Australia have to gain from that besides a financial headache?

Well obviously if the brits dont respect us as a fellow member of the Commonwealth enough that they make it tough for us to work in Britain then what is the benefit of us not being a republic. If we at least don't have enough self respect to have our own head of state when we are treated as such then its laughable!

So you allow the English to just come over and work without a visa do you?

No but i think the visa rules are much more stringent for Aussies then they are for the members of the European Union. I am not sure about Britain in Australia vs Australians in Britain.

I agree. I think it's time now, there is no benefit for us staying part of the Commonwealth.

Time to become a republic.

Only if the previous model that went to referendum is tweaked a lot. I voted against it then, as I figured if it really isn't broke, why try and fix it?
That said, am open to revisiting the idea IF the proposal makes more sense and a clear benefit is shown.

Aren't most Aussies who are in England (or Europe for that matter) dual nationality holders with a Shegen agreement EU nation anyway?

So won't really make any difference I'd say.

Is the plan to be fecitious and criticise without offering alternatives because if it is then your right on track. How many Asian cups did you win?

Sorry but whenever you say 'there is a plan' like that it makes you sound like a douche imo. And I've been enjoying a lot of your posts lately

You're probably right, of the Aussies in the EPL

Jedinak (probably holds Croatian heritage)
Schwarzer (has german I think)
Davidson (more than likely Scottish)
Smith (I think he was born in England)

In the lower leagues

Luongo (probably Italian heritage)
Wright (probably English)
Williams (what part of Britain doesn't he have heritage)

Thanks For that, this highlights it exactly a member of the EU is worth more then a member of the Commonwealth for which we bled and died for Britain. Disgraceful.

I did have a chuckle at this though...Nationals of Croatia may face temporary restrictions. Poor Croats...

and we bled and died for you as well, we still need a Visa to get into your country.

Do you not understand - it's called reciprocal arrangements.

It has already been reported that the "Big Clubs" will resist and fight the proposed changes, as they feel it will weaken their position against the European big clubs.

No doubt their self interest will water down or block any changes proposed by the FA.

That only came in when Great Britain joined the 'Common Market' or EU as it is called these days.

Prior to that it was basically free travel either way.

I like the new proposed changes though as it will reduce the numbers of average players from non-EU countries from flooding the EPL and lower leagues reducing the chances of young local players getting promoted.

England might just become competitive in a few years. :P

So instead of England's top players playing against 'average' foreigners, they'll be playing against "even more average' local players that couldn't get in the team above the average foreigners.

PLaying against top opposition week in, week out is what makes players better.

True but young English players sitting on the pines no good for their careers.

The problem with the average players being brought into the lower leagues in particular is that it delays the entry of talented, but inexperienced, young local players into 1st team Football.
