Figo wants rule changes.
Here something for ConM.
Figo wants:
1. Increased use of technology in the game, using sin-bins for unsporting behaviour.
2. Reverting back to the previous interpretation of the offside rule, "where a player is judged offside whether directly involved in the play or not".

I wonder what other players think of that?
The older I get the better I was.

Re: Figo wants rule changes.
The only thing about the off side now , is there is too much subjectiveness, the positives outweigh the negatives of it, but in the past it was clear cut.

I agree old law was clearer but I just don't see FIFA changing as they will be scared less goals will be scored.

Re: Figo wants rule changes.
The new interpretation is good, if you're not interfering then you're not offside.

Football doesn't have rules

If you're on the park you are interfering.God is an Englishman wrote:The new interpretation is good, if you're not interfering then you're not offside.

Re: Figo wants rule changes.
goalkeeper rolls the ball out to the left back but the striker is in a offside position in the oppositions 6 yard box. You believe the offside should be given?Cloister wrote:If you're on the park you are interfering.God is an Englishman wrote:The new interpretation is good, if you're not interfering then you're not offside.

Yes, because the opposition defender still has to be aware of his presence.

He's 130m away. I guess we don't want the game to have any fluidity.

Re: Figo wants rule changes.
The current offside law is good for me, the only thing is there are still far too many times the officials cant work out times when there is clear "interference". To me if they are anywhere within keepers direct line of vision, it's interefering, even if you're casually walking back.

If he's 130m away he'd be off the pitch, not offside.God is an Englishman wrote:Cloister wrote:Yes, because the opposition defender still has to be aware of his presence.

You can still be offside even if off the pitch.
It is also possible for 2 people to be on the pitch and also 130m apart. they could even be 150m apart.

Re: Figo wants rule changes.
Awaiting a response from a ref re being offside off the pitch as I don't believe you can, but willing to be corrected.
as for distance, the largest you can have a pitch is 110 m x 73 m isn't it?
So not sure if my maths skills are a bit rusty but that makes the diagonal 132 m?
So technically you can be 130 m apart but not 150 m, but being the striker is in the opposition 6 yard box its a no can do. Happy to have my maths skills questioned though.

Offside position
It is not an offence in itself to be in an offside position.
A player is in an offside position if:
• he is nearer to his opponents’ goal line than both the ball and the
second-last opponent
A player is not in an offside position if:
• he is in his own half of the fi eld of play or
• he is level with the second-last opponent or
• he is level with the last two opponents
Offence
A player in an offside position is only penalised if, at the moment the ball
touches or is played by one of his team, he is, in the opinion of the referee,
involved in active play by:
• interfering with play or
• interfering with an opponent or
• gaining an advantage by being in that position
No offence
There is no offside offence if a player receives the ball directly from:
• a goal kick
• a throw-in
• a corner kick
So for a player off the field of play he would need to meet above criteria above : interfering with play or opponent or gaining an advantage, which could be possible .

you can have 120m x 90m as the maximum. (perhaps you're thinking of 110 x 75 which is for international matches). That makes the diagonal 150m.
I see the other part has been shown to you as well. It happened in a world cup game I think in 2010. Player deemed to be on the goal line as he had stepped off the pitch.
Re: Figo wants rule changes.
Ban substitutions in injury time & make subs leave the field from the nearest touchline and walk around.
