I know it's early, but based on that performance, I wouldn't expect either Arsenal or Leicester to be winning anything. Both defences were horrible and usual lucky Arsenal to get away with a blatant handball.

A bit of a shame that Leicester didn't get the point, but a good game to watch though.

What an opening game! 1-2, down, 2-3 down and came back to win 4-3 with the clock ticking down agonisingly slow in those last 5 added minutes.

Some will talk about "that" handball, but a lot came after it with the corner given. Ramsey's goal brilliantly worked. Lacazette a goal on debut & showed dancing feet late through the Leicester defence, only to be denied by Schmeichel.

So important to start the campaign right. Now to somehow keep Sanchez.

ps, my Optus pic kept annoyingly dropping out. Happen to anyone else?

Take it easy you silly spud  our defence will get better as Koscielny, Mustafi and Per will all be available next game.. good 3 pts to get the season underway, as in seasons past we have failed to do so

Look forward to see how your boys travel up north now

Not the most convincing start, but we did what we had to to get the win. You can’t really judge too much after the first game of the season, but we just seem to concede goals from bad defensive errors. All three could have been avoided.

But with no Koscielny, no Mertersacker, no Sanchez, Ramsey on the bench and Ozil probably not 100% fit means we were never gonna be at our best anyway.

But with all those players coming back in the coming weeks we should start to look a whole lot better.

Kolasinac looks like being a great pick up also.

Any chance we can change the name of this thread?

or do we need to start up a whole new thread for 17/18?

As you created the thread, you can edit it. Just go to initial post and change the title section. You can thank me by losing to Liverpool when we next front up.

well i did say weeks (not week)

I don't care how much possession we had, we never looked really threatening v stoke

And here's a thought. How bout playing players in their natural positions. We had two LB's playing in CB roles - with CB's on the bench!
And Bellerin is a solid right sided player. Leave him there!

But our play overall was pretty poor IMO. We didn't create too many clear cut chances.

Also, Lacazette's goal should have stood (what a finish btw). Why do we have VAR if it's not going to be used in instances like these?

I understand that VAR would have ruled the goal offside in the end, only ourselves (wenger) to blame for not getting something out of that anyway. If Xhaka ever wants to be a proper midfielder he needs to get his head out of his ar$e and have a closer look at the likes of Darren Fletcher, 33 years old on a free transfer he played him off the park on the weekend.

We're a better team with Jack in it. Imagine if him and Cazorla were both fit and playing

The only thing that softens the blow of Spurs giving up an injury time equaliser, is the sight of Arsene's pansies turning in a truly pathetic performance at Anfield.

Disgraceful. Shambles. Embarrassing. Pathetic.

Any one of these words could describe that Arsenal performance.

Liverpool were excellent no doubt. They played really well.
But that was just a 4-0 hammering. And it should’ve been more.

We never looked in it.

but where do we start?
The team selection? The player positions? The attitude?

We’re only 3 games in and its obvious already that re-signing Wenger was a mistake.
He should’ve gone out on a high after winning the FA Cup.

Because lets face it, nothing has changed. Not a single thing.
The players don’t even seem interested. They don’t seem to be playing for him anymore.

Its gonna be a long season for us.

Well done Liverpool, completely out played out muscled us and reinforced that we have taken a huge step backwards.

It just shows how bad we are when Wenger picks players who dont want to play for him or the club anymore!! Stop the stubbornness Mr Wenger, move them on and rebuild a squad that may stumble into the top 4

I am still in shock that Lacazette didn't start.
Admittedly I am also in shock Mignolet didn't either and that one didnt matter.

No, you could have put shankly's statue in there instead and it wouldn't have made a difference. Don't be shocked by anything wenger does, he's a genius and it's all about him.

I am genuinley not trolling, and I thought we were oustadning, I don't think any team in the league could cope with the way we played today. But not one shot on target, and the only real effort was Wellbeck in the first half, is a worry.

You could have lost 4-0 and thought, WOW LFC wer excellent, but the issue you were so bad - Arsene needs to address it quickly.
