ok....heres my take....

Greece achieved the unbelievable in 2004 "To Peiratiko"....they stole something that they had no right to own.....previous to that, qualifying was all they could ever dream about.

At Euro 2004, everything was aligned...the right coach, the right players, the right tactics (this was in their opinion the blue print for future success)

Since then, they've stayed true to the 'style' that won them the Euro and haven't evolved....different coach, different players bar 2 or 3 but same tactics...manic pressing, sound defensively, not overly adventurous going forward, relying on dead balls situations to score.

This style/philosophy has seen them qualify for 5 out of the last 6 Euro/ WC tournaments....not a bad effort for a country that had enjoyed literally no success prior 2004.

Not really, Colombia didn’t have to get out of 2nd gear.
Were in cruise control the whole way. It’s about a perfect game first up in ta tournament that you could possible play from them.

Greece had to chase the game from early and that’s something Greece doesn’t do well.

Way too slow in the final third. Greece has some impressive, quick and direct attacking midfielders on the bench but they need to be set free by the system. Which they won’t be.
Defence is very good, Manolas will be at a big club soon.

Japan didn't look all that good against Cote d'Ivoire, so not a bad game for Greece to get back into it.

You'll have to ask Kop.....he still follows the Greek League in the hope AEK finally knock off my team.

from all accounts, he's a gun on the move...

The Greeks played as though they were on workcover v Japan. Thwarted all possible attempts to expose them, but stood firm.

Manolas debuted at AEK at 16, you could see he was a big talent. Good bloodline, his uncle was one of the best Greek players of all time. He knocked back a move to Everton a few years ago, he'll surely move to one of the top 3 leagues in the off season.

Add in Papastathopoulos (Dortmund - made Bundesliga team of the year) and Papadopoulos was on the brink of a move to Liverpool before his knee injury set back, hopefully he gets back to full fitness next season. Central defence is set for the next 6-8 years, 26, 23 and 22 years of age. All made first team debuts at 16 or under.

Now to find a number 10, a clinical striker, some good box to box midfielders and some good wide players....

So Kop. Defence less the keeper is set. They still a decent Keeper. And every other position according to your above post. But I agree.

Very poor. Greece since 2004 have done very well and punched way above their weight........Even better than your Poland, Bomber. But with the very incorrect appointment of the current manager who has destroyed the side within days of taking over. I see no Euro 2016 for them. The lowest point in their history the defeat to the Faroes. With of course an Italian leading them. My thinking, sack him now, appoint a decent coach and work toward Russia WC 2018. All the good work from Otto & the Portugese guy were lost in days with this grenache. Poor decision by EPO.....

Given the risk of getting banned, lets look at the positives - Faroe Islands won a game for once. They're on a par with American Samoa aren't they?
