Red-4-Life wrote:Top at Xmas - the last 4 teams to be top at Xmas have won it, however Liverpool were the team to be in this spot in 08/09 and came 2nd. I know it doesn't mean too much but just a bit of trivia! Can Liverpool hold on and take it out? City and Chelsea over the next week will be huge games for us, fingers crossed!
2 points between 1st and 5th. Not much in it. Won't read too much into it.

Contradiction much?

very common practice for teams to "take their foot off the gas" at certain times and in certain scenario's
its a good tactic if used correctly
Whats wrong with you?
Its either indigestion or this forum, and I hope its indigestion
Why?
Because at least I know that will get better in a little while

The last 3 times we have been top at Xmas we didn't win the league. I have enjoyed the moment and no more.

Disappointing result for us. We certainly had enough chances to win the game but we didn't take them and got punished for a couple of errors. Lee mason had a cabernet game for both teams though. Extremely inconsistent. There should have been 2-3 penalties and countless fouls given/not given. Hopefully we can bounce back in a tough match against Chelsea.

Hard to accept that one, should have claimed at least a point, terrible offside decision against Sterling, you could see in normal time even that clearly on-side but that's football. Still playing well and probably the hardest fixture now out the way. Still in it!

PS - At least one thing made me smile this morning. Everton's "result"! 8)

Performance was really good, considering everyone who's gone to Etihad has been spanked to dominate in patches and deserve a draw is good enough. Conceeded from a set piece and counter attack, Allen and Henderson had a great games and Lucas did a very good job keeping Silva and Nasri quiet.
Missing Sturridge, Gerrard and Enrique too. Could have done with Sturridge.
Overall satisfied.

Chelsea away then apart from going to Old Toilet, all other fixtures against top 8 are at home.

Don't think you can give a pen for the shirt pulling on Suarez considering all the stuff Skrtel gets away with. One of these days he'll cost us a penalty with his UFC style defending off set pieces.

That's where the ref stuffed up big time. Skrtel takes it too far and should get punished and he will eventually and it'll cost us. Rodgers has to sort him out because it isn't even hidden at all.

Disappointed to lose but not with the performance.

In the first half Coutinho had a chance to bury a 1v1 chance but hit it just about straight to Hart, City go down the other end and put it away. Defence is still somewhat of a concern against better teams. Still in it, a win against Chelsea away will be fantastic

I don't think Brendan's noticed it yet, he's got Wenger's glasses on

Bit stiff with the offside.

Didn't play well but Webb made some terrible decisions tonight. Depth is a massive issue.

Didn't play well for both sides to be fair but the main weakness that Liverpool have in addition to depth is that if Suarez is marshalled well then the attacking threat is blunted. Coutinho looked out of his depth, Allen was very ineffective (as he has been since he put a red shirt on) and Henderson didn't look like he had the stomach for it. The constant pressure from Willian, Hazard and Oscar was something the lack of pace in Liverpool's back 4 did not cope at all well with.

Our players were tired. You could tell that was te case when they'd miss-hit passes. Chelsea had the luxury of having only 5 players playing 3 games. We had 10 and now have 2 injuries. We need to strengthen in defensive mid, left wing, right back.

Squad depth was always going to be an issue at some stage, at the end of the day if we win the games we should win, ie hull at home. Top 4 is still very realistic.

Agreed, plus most tricky away fixtures out of the way now. Just need good home form and anything's still possible! 8)

true if results for the whole league stay so unpredicatable...might need to give a robbie a short term contract if injuries keep coming!

Still a long way to go and we play Arsenal, Tottenham, Everton, Chelsea and City all at HOME. Top 4 would be a great result for Liverpool after the last 5 years

Strange, but entertaining game.

With the way Liverpool's luck is running, they should win the League

Although Man City were the beneficiaries of another shocking decision so you might have competition.

so you don't disagree then????

no, im a realist...we will be lucky to finish top 6 let a lone top 4...I know this is a 'Poo thread but just to show that it will take time to disassemble and then rebuild, ive just read that Moyes hasn't offered Evra a new deal...he's out in Jan and Baines is in...

You had better hope we win it soon, as you can't count more than 25.
