You're right. There would be a few people in Paraguay hoping for the same.

For somebody so pedantic about every little thing, seems you can't write Italy

On to the match, it's almost like Lippi does not even know who he wants to start, nor what formation we will line up as. Few different combinations were tried out in training overnight, but taking a guess as to what the starting XI will be, I think (4-2-3-1) -

----------------------Buffon
Zambrotta----Cannavaro---Chiellini---Criscito
-------------De Rossi-----Palombo
Pepe-------------Montolivo--------Iaquinta
-------------------Gilardino

Although those different combinations in training overnight saw Bocchetti in for Criscito, Pazzini for Gilardino, with Montolivo in Palombo's role and in behind Pazzini a line of Pepe, Marchisio and Iaquinta.

Italy played surprisingly well for most of the game.
Hopefully the Buffon injury isn't serious, on a positive note for Juve fans though I thought Pepe was close to man of the match out wide.
Gave good width, ran all night and provided the assist for De Rossi.

Yep, Pepe was surprisingly good. Overall I thought we played a decent match, and looked much better once it went to a 4-4-2 in the second half. We don't have the players nor understanding of a 4-3-3 to make it successful. Defence was solid enough, although Criscito gave it away one too many times. De Rossi was good and Montolivo did ok.

Hopefully it is not a reoccurence of Buffon's injury problems from the past few years and he is back to take on New Zealand. We should beat them, but as all Italian fans know, the team always puts the fans through hell and can never really take care of teams.

This game played out as expected. Italy were true to form an started their campaign slowly just like every other time. They'll get through and then anything can happen as we've seen before.

I though the Italians played well. Paraguay qualified higher then Argentina for the World Cup so they are no slouches. The conditions did not suit good football and I thought the Italian dominated the game but lacked a little up front to win this thing.

Jimmy i dont give it, especially not to you.

fact is that I, like many, make a point of avoiding your posts as i cant understand half of what you write.

You can worry about Australia, God knows they need someone with your knowledge and expertise and we will worry about as you put it the "grandfather team playing WORLD CUP clowns............serperiour team playing old coooocks".

fair?

Paraguay are a very good side, however surprisingly to me, Italy played quite well for most of the match and dominated for the last 30 mins.

I would have played Zambrotta at Left Back and Maggio down the right, Criscito should be there for some experience and back up.

Pinturricchio, have to disagree, Montolivo played quite well and got better as the game went on. Italy will certainly have to improve, but the lack of a "fantasista", ala Cassano, Totti etc will make it hard against the usual suspects.

Need to line up with a 4-4-2, Gilardino was poor and Italy looked much much better when Di Natale came on. Pepe works like a dog, but lets himself down with his last pass/cross.

Buffon looks to be out the rest of the tournament, they took a risk picking him and it hasnt paid off.

I heard Buffon got back spasms therefore had to be subbed, who knows if he'll be ok for the rest of the tournament

totally agree with what you have said, they need that spark like a Baggio/Del Piero or Totti but do they have someone of that ilk on the bench???
