Blackburn have strengthened their attacking options by signing Shabani Nonda on a season-long loan from Roma.
The DR Congo international was a prolific goalscorer in French football but had a season of mixed fortunes in Serie A last season after joining Roma from Monaco.
Nonda, 29, has the chance to earn a permanent switch to Ewood Park after Rovers announced they had secured an option to make him their player next summer.
Monaco, for whom he had hit 26 league goals in the 2002-03 season.
Injuries have affected the player who began his career with FC Zurich and later moved on to Rennes before signing for Monaco for £15million.
He played for Monaco as a substitute in the 2004 Champions League final, which Porto won, and then struck eight goals in 22 appearances for Roma.
His signing means Rovers have ample competition for places in attack, after the summer signings of Jason Roberts from Wigan and Benni McCarthy from Porto.
They also have Francis Jeffers, Paul Gallagher and Shefki Kuqi pushing for inclusion in Mark Hughes' side.
