Villarreal midfielder Marcos Senna has revealed his move to Manchester United fell through because of a sponsors intervention. Senna says Sir Alex Ferguson was handed orders from the clubs new sponsors AIG to only buy English talent and therefore made their move for Bayern Munichs Owen Hargreaves instead.
"It went very quiet, then Mr Fergusons assistant Carlos Queiroz told my agent he was sorry but they had orders from above," Senna said in the News of the World. "Queiroz said the sponsor preferred English players and although they wanted me, they would have to wait. But they never called me back."
