Coppa: Juve undone in Napoli

Juventus are out of the Coppa Italia after a dramatic 3-3 draw at Napoli, Gigi Buffon eventually missing a penalty in the shoot-out after Mauro Camoranesiâ€™s dismissal.

Juve got off to a great start at the packed out Stadio San Paolo, where 60,000 fans crammed in to the legendary arena, as after 27 minutes Giorgio Chiellini nodded in Federico Balzarettiâ€™s cross.

However, after Cristian Bucchi saw a good chance charged down by the defence, the former Modena hitman equalised just before the break with an acrobatic volley.

Bucchi was Serie Bâ€™s top scorer last term and again went close with a header, so it was no real surprise when Napoli capitalised on their good play to take the lead. Emanuele Calaio ran on to a defence-splitting pass to waltz round World Cup winning goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon.

Didier Deschamps had to reinforce the side and threw on Alessandro Del Piero for Valeri Bojinov. As against Cesena in the last round, Pinturicchioâ€™s entrance made all the difference, as he unleashed a curling strike from the edge of the box that slammed in off the upright.

Inacio Pia wasted a glorious opportunity for the home side and it went to extra time, where Marco Marchionni brought a tough save out of Gennaro Iezzo and Cristiano Zanettiâ€™s shot was charged down.

Mauro Camoranesi replaced Pavel Nedved and did little to endear himself to the Juventus fans, as he was sent off for elbowing Montervino soon after stepping on to the field. Napoli didnâ€™t have an advantage for long, as moments later Grava also saw red for a second bookable offence.

The drama was most definitely not over yet in an incredible night at the San Paolo. Del Piero thought he had secured victory for Juventus by turning in Balzarettiâ€™s assist with 120 seconds to go.

However, Paolo Cannavaro â€“ the younger brother of ex-Juve captain Fabio â€“ sent the home crowd wild with a spectacular overhead kick right at the death. The final score was 3-3 and only penalties could separate the two fallen giants of Italian football.

Ivano Trotta beat Buffon and the goalkeeper bizarrely took Juveâ€™s first spot-kick himself, but fired it off target. Bucchi and Maurizio Domizzi also converted for Napoli, but Sam Dalla Bonaâ€™s effort was saved. Tomas Guzman and Alessandro Birindelli scored for the Bianconeri, then Marco Marchionniâ€™s kick was blocked by Iezzo. Cannavaro had the decisive kick and this time Buffon kept him out, so Del Piero kept his cool to level the scores after five penalties each.

The shoot-out continued with Montervino, Chiellini, Amodio scoring, but Balzaretti fired wide to hand victory to Napoli.

The Azzurri continue their Coppa Italia adventure, winning on penalties after a 3-3 draw, and go on to face Parma in the next phase.

Cameronesi sent off in what is beleived, by some Juve people to have been deliberate so as to force the club to sell him.

Well done by Napoli! Apparently it was an excellent game.

Juve would be spewing... the Coppa was their only chance of getting into Europe next year!

Next challenge for the Azzurri.... Parma!

Na i don't think they showed it on RAI, but i'm trying to track down the goals now. Apparently the Naps scored a couple of corkers! Topped off with a scissor from Cannavaro.P! what a gun....
I'm itching for this season to start now.....

Camo seeks Juve exit

Mauro Camoranesi has told Juventus that he is keen to seal a lucrative switch to Inter as soon as possible.

The Bianconeri, who have endured a testing summer after being demoted to Serie B for their part in the Calciopoli scandal, have already seen a number of their top players depart.

Fabio Cannavaro, Emerson, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Lilian Thuram, Patrick Vieira and Gianluca Zambrotta have all opted to wave goodbye to Turin, as well as Coach Fabio Capello.

Camoranesi, a member of Italyâ€™s World Cup winning squad, has now stated his desire to join that group of players â€“ and his preferred destination matches that of Ibrahimovic and Vieira.

â€œInter is a great team and it's what Mauro would like for his career from now on," his agent Sergio Fortunato explained.

â€œHe is looking for strong motivation and wants to play in a team that fights for the likes of the Champions League or the Scudetto.

"The Nerazzurri have built a very strong team and Mauro has been seduced by the idea of playing there."

Lyon were also said to be keen on the flying winger, but it is thought that negotiations broke down at an early stage.

However, Camoranesiâ€™s desire to move is likely to be met with deaf ears by his employers, who have told him and David Trezeguet â€“ linked with a move to Man United this weekend â€“ that they are staying put.

â€œI don't know what these clubs have in mind for Camoranesi and Trezeguet, but we won't give up â€“ they will remain at Juve," President Giovanni Cobolli Gigli stated

After the deliberate Red in the cup against Napoli he can go with the others, this is the 4th request this month to leave. Play the prick of the bench and see if he's got the balls to fight for a place in the team because this year will require a fighting team spirit. Only rats jump of a sinking ship!!!

Deschamps positive despite exit

Didier Deschamps was unhappy after Juventus were eliminated from the Coppa Italia by Napoli, but he insisted that promotion to Serie A was always their priority.

The Bianconeri were defeated 8-7 in the third round of the competition after a dramatic penalty shoot-out, in front of a packed Stadio San Paolo with more than 60,000 fans cheering on the home side.

â€œIt was a great game for the spectators, but I canâ€™t criticise my players â€“ their attitude was exactly the one we needed,â€ said the tactician after the match.

â€œWe knew it was going to be a difficult challenge, San Paolo is always a complicated environment to play in and Napoli are a good side.

â€œFurthermore, the crowd here really gets behind the team and gives them that extra something.

â€œNapoli played a good match and we had several problems, but we could have avoided a few mistakes â€“ there is always an error behind every goal,â€ continued Deschamps.

â€œWeâ€™re obviously disappointed, as the Cup was the fastest way to return to European competitions, but the championship still is, and has always been, our priority. Our season doesnâ€™t end hereâ€.

The Juventus Coach also commented on Gianluigi Buffonâ€™s bizarre decision to take the first spot-kick, which the â€˜keeper missed.

â€œHe asked me to kick the penalty, he said he felt like doing so and there werenâ€™t many players on the pitch who still had the energies, so I let him try.â€
