Re: Arsenal 2014/2015
Interesting to see that Ranieri is now starting to lose some of his cool and was blaming the referee for the sending off, which were two clear yellows in my book. It's getting tight and the pressure's beginning to show.
Shockingly stupid tackle by Wasilewski to give away the free kick that lead to the winner. Monreal had headed the ball out for a goal kick that would have ended the game, but the big, dumb lump couldn't resist giving him a whack.

Re: Arsenal 2014/2015
FFS. Replay needed. 0-0 versus Hull in the Cup. Something the Gunners could have done without.
Gotta hand it to Hull's 'keeper - he made at least half a dozen wonderful saves.
There's gotta be a case for playing all the big guns from the start, bury the Second Division side early, then sub 3 stars. Wouldn't they rather play a competitive game than just train?

All top clubs need two players in all positions. Monreal has had a great year, last year Gibbs was first choice.. He won't be going anywhere

Touchè Cyril. All they do is lounge around. And occasionally travel Europe to play elite football in the Champions League. Absolutely, you keep building up all those fixtures, although you'll be out at the KC. We'll be rested and ready to go on March 5.haywood djablowme wrote:Would rather a replay & be in the next rd draw than not at allNice One Cyril wrote: Excellent result. Played OK and dominated the game, but we were always going to lose sooner or later, so I'm not unhappy it was in a cup comp.

Your cup comp is normally the League Cup - Liverpool and Spurs are still clubs that think it is worth winning.

No, we value winning other things. It's that we usually win something, and sometimes it happens to be the League Cup. Better than zilch!Old Redback wrote:Your cup comp is normally the League Cup - Liverpool and Spurs are still clubs that think it is worth winning.

As I say all the time, real football fans of any team, prefer winning a cup rather than coming 2nd, 3rd or 4th.

Re: Arsenal 2014/2015
In general, I'd agree with you, nobody remembers who came second, third or fourth, but sometimes you have to sacrifice a potential trophy on the altar of expediency. The riches available and the players it could potentially attract, make CL qualification far more important for the future of a club, at least in the short term.New Year New name wrote:As I say all the time, real football fans of any team, prefer winning a cup rather than coming 2nd, 3rd or 4th.

Re: Arsenal 2014/2015
As Jurgen said, he doesn't want players to only come if we are in the CL, he wants players who want to come to help us get in it. If Man City also lose this week in the CL, what good will it have done them playing their reserves last night.Nice One Cyril wrote:In general, I'd agree with you, nobody remembers who came second, third or fourth, but sometimes you have to sacrifice a potential trophy on the altar of expediency. I am nit being argumentative on purpose, but hand on heart I would love to win on Sunday and come below 4th (which we will anyway) than lose to City and come 4th. The majority agree with this. Winning cups gives the players and club confidence and belief and you build on it

I don't disagree, but the CL gives you the cash to buy better players in the first place!
