Covid, postponements and SAASL losing the bottle of shiraz plot

Post by Clem Fandango »

So I can see there’s 6 games across Div 3 and Div Saturday that have been postponed this week, and that’s without looking at the reserves and Cs.

There’s been no COVID policy produced by the league, they’ve allowed a team to postpone their first team despite having enough players to fill a Bs and Cs team and we’ve now got a situation where this can be used as an excuse by teams moving forward when they have a handful of cases, but want a game postponed to suit their squad availability.

The lack of leadership by SAASL should be surprising, but it’s really not at this point. You’ve failed the clubs time and time again, and it’s about time the clubs had some sort of committee or player association to hold this inept board to some sort of account.

If you don’t have the best interests of the clubs, players and the league at heart, maybe you need to pack up and shiraz off, and let someone else have a go.
Grosso, can you hear me?

they did the same thing last year r1 when they said no first team games can go ahead without official refs. That lasted a week before they allowed club refs to do first team in the lower divs. reckon the same will happen this year

Maybe if players and coaches stopped treating the Ref's like cabernet there'd be more people willing to do the job

add crowd behaviour towards match officials and the lack of action from club Marshalls in dealing with it within their own club

it disappoints me the way some players and coaches act every time the ball goes out of play, appealing for a ball that is not theirs and then get angry if not given to them.
Every time the ball goes out of play you know if it is yours or not.
How much better would the game be if when the ball goes out of play, the team who touched the ball last do not appeal and let the other team have it.
Would this make it a bit easier for all match officials and all linesmen ?
The way players and coaches carry on even at top level is immature, it is no wonder it happens at other levels too.

Unfortunately it flows down doesn’t it. Little Johnny sees Ronaldo acting like a petulant twat, so he does it in the JSL 10s but because no one stamps it out and his Dad is in the face of the official screaming too, it continues. Suddenly Johnny is 15 and still doing it in E & D and fast forward 10 years, Johnnys’ football ‘career’ has taken him to the SAASL Div 4 reserves and he’s abusing a poor club ref.

The problem for referees is they take action and they get attacked by a bunch of thugs.

We’ve got cameras now that show the whole pitch, clubs who are charged and found guilty of unruly behaviour (players, officials or spectators) should be made to purchase one of these camera and upload all their games for the league to view as part of their fine and punishment.

All clubs in that division that play that club should then be emailed asking to report any unruly behaviour, as should the referee. When the league get a report they can then view the footage for themselves.

Rather than giving these clubs a slap on the wrist, make them purchase a $2000 camera as a first offence fine. I can tell you the league will lose the cabernet teams pretty quickly when they are having to fork out thousands to behave.

Either that, or just make it part of the "set-up" of any new or existing team..... surely established clubs can afford this and it may even stop little Johnny deciding he can start a 1-team club on the local school oval because the outlay of funds will be too much - it may help encourage players to join existing clubs.

I don't see why so many people complaining about new clubs. They all have to start somewhere.

What would be the fine for the battery running out on the camera?

Because the 1 team clubs set up on the same ground as an existing club and last 1 or 2 seasons.
Why not join up as a C / C2 team of that existing club?? Utilise their established governance and become more sustainable.
Will cause less trouble in the long run as abusive players/teams will be cut loose by the club.

Easy to say that when you're at an established club. Why should a "new club" have to fit in with another club, play in their colours, pay their fees, play with their badge....

Allow these new clubs to be set up is good for the league as long as the league has strict governance on behaviour. Maybe a 1 strike policy in your first few years.
