SAASL Club Challenge Series - SUNDAY CONFERENCE

Match of the Day

BRAHMA Lodge have moved two points clear in their group after a 2-0 win over Parafield Gardens at Bradman oval.
Both sides had opening day wins and it was Gardens who created the 1st opportunity on three minutes when a long Jarrad Nestler throw was volleyed just wide by skipper Daniel Roadley.

David Thornton was looking dangerous for the visiting Lodge and on 28 minutes he brushed off his defender before hitting a 20 yard shot just wide.

On the stroke of half time Thornton broke the deadlock when he picked the ball up on the left hand side before cutting in to the box and curling his shot around a diving Jayden Shepard in the Gardens goal.

Both sides struggled to carve out too many clear cut opportunities but Gardens came close on 62 minutes when Josh Coyne brought the ball down before shooting just wide.

Brahma should have doubled their lead on 64 minutes when a Dylan Centrone cross found an unmarked Iain Fyfe on six yards but his header was straight at the keeper.

Danger man Chad Bugeja started to come into the game and on 66 minutes he shot just wide with the keeper beaten and on 76 minutes he received a fine through ball but disappointingly chipped over the bar.

Bugeja made up for that miss on 80 minutes when he swept home a Bailey Carter cross to make it 2-0 and seal the three points.

Brahma Coach Freddy Agius “it’s a good result. We expected a tough game and I thought we played well. I was happy for David to get his goal and Chad as always is dangerous for us.”

IN OTHER GAMES

Ernie Barrett Shield

TEN man Ingle Farm scored 10 minutes from time to secure a 2-2 draw with Ghan at Walkleys oval. Farm started the game brightly and went 1-0 up on 17 minutes when Danny Aarouste ghosted in at the back post to finish coolly.

Farm were reduced to 10 men on the half hour when Michael Whitford was given a 2nd yellow card for handball and when Masoud Teymouri converted the penalty Ghan were level.
After the break Ghan went ahead when Rahim Zaidi scored from long range for the visitors.

With ten minutes left on the clock Callum McKay cut a ball back into the path of Daniel Rickard who fired home to gain a point for Farm.

Farm coach Dean Lawrence “A Fair result. I was proud of the effort of the boys having played an hour with ten men.”
Ghan coach Desmond Tucker “We missed some good chances. I felt we were on top and they were tired but we gave the game away.”

A BLAZE Esposito goal five minutes from time helped Adelaide Croatia to a memorable 4-3 win over Tea Tree Gully at State Sports Park.

Jayden Gligoritsch opened the scoring for Croatia and Aaron Westerveldt turned back the clock with two cracking free kicks but with the scores locked at 3-3 it was Esposito who found the winner.

Croatia coach Bert Fuda “Im happy for the boys, it was a really tough game. I feel like we have the quality to compete in this group.”

Freddie Pine Shield

SALISBURY Inter has seen a three goal lead evaporate in a thrilling 3-3 draw with Elizabeth Downs at Underdown Park.
Inter came into the game on the back of a 5-1 loss away at Port Pirie but they took a 20 minute lead through Dominic Przylucki who slotted neatly after a fast break and Przylucki had the home fans cheering when he doubled the lead.

The biggest upset of this short season was on when Czech Mandi fired home a free kick to make it 3-0 but as legs started to tire the Maroons fought back.

The Downs goals came from Damien Daglish, Scott Lindsay and Braiden Gundlach with the equalizer coming in stoppage time.

Inter coach Stuart McKenzie “For us it’s all about the way we go about it so we take some real positives from today.”

PARA Hills West took all three points with a 1-0 win over Elizabeth Vale at Moflin Road.

The only goal came on 25 minutes when a dangerous Jarred Noel corner to the front post was punched into the goal by Vale keeper Andy Kokot.

Westies coach Michael Iacovino “We played some really good football today, the way we moved the ball around was pleasing. We just need to be a little more ruthless in front of goals.”

PARA Hills East had a crucial 3-2 win over Port Pirie Savoy at Para Hills oval.

Easties took a 2-1 lead to the break with all goals coming from the penalty spot, Tom Humphries converting for East while Jack Scoop scored for Savoy.

After the break Savoy equalized through Daniel Spadavecchia who swept the ball home from six yards.

The eventual winner came on about 65 minutes when Ryan Mayo headed home a corner to the delight of the East fans.

East coach Andy Saggs “It was a scrappy game and I thought we cruised a bit after going 2-0 up but the boys showed good character to come back and win.”

Palm/Mackay Shield

WEST Adelaide Raptors continued their fine start to the season with a 6-1 win over Seaford at Kingston Gardens.
Captain Spero Koulianos followed on from last week’s five goal haul with a hat trick.

Raptors coach Con Koutsikas “We expected a tough game today but our boys played really well.”

TWO 2nd half penalties helped West Beach secure a 4-2 win over Southern Knights at Southern Knights.

Dylan Torr opened the scoring for the knights before Michael Hannah equalized for Beach and the visitors went to the break 2-1 up when Lee Synnott finished coolly after getting on the end of a long ball.

Matt Daughtry reacted first to fire home a rebound from a Nathan Smith free kick to bring the Knights level.

Two fouls in the last half hour resulted in penalties which Synnott converted to secure a personal hat trick and all three points for his team.

Lee Grogan West Beach coach “I was really pleased with the result at a tough place to play, it was a big performance from the boys.”

Tom Monseignor Southern Knights coach “A Couple of clumsy tackles late for the penalties have cost us but it was a big improvement on last week.

Noarlunga has responded to a round one hammering to beat Plympton 3-0 at Plympton.

Samuel Zinnoegger scored a hat trick which included two penalties to the delight of coach Kevin Miller “Last week wasn’t us so it was a credit to the boys the way they turned it around.”

Iain Gossland Shield

ROWE Park stamped themselves as the team to beat with a thumping 6-0 win over Modbury at Rowe Park.

Rowe Park led 1-0 at the break through a Jordan Webb penalty and after the break Jeff Napier’s team ran away with the game “The game was even in the 1st half but I think our fitness showed out after the break.”

MACEDONIA came from a goal down to beat Payneham Postel 3-1 at Greenacres reserve.

Amiraldo Grishaj, Pali Dodaj and Cesk Kasneci scored the goals for the visitors. Coach Aldo Grisja “We were terrible last week so it was very pleasing the way we played today, a good response.”

A 92nd minute goal gave Metro Stars a 4-3 win over Para Hills United at TK Shutter Reserve.

For Metro Jackson Livori scored twice as did Ryan Parker for the visitors.

Para coach Graham Parker had no complaints “Both sides had chances and the game could have gone either way.”

Rudi Templin Shield

MUNNO Para made it two wins from two games with a 3-1 win against SBS at Andrew Smith Drive.

Stephen Orange scored twice as Munno Para moved to the top of the group.

ANGLE Vale won their 1st game of the campaign with a 4-2 win over Andrews Farm at Angle Vale.

Jack Bedford scored twice for the victors. Angle Vale coach Peter Dommerdich “We always have good games with Andrews Farm and the boys responded well after a loss last week.”

Eastern took the lead through a fine 20 yard Joseph De Girolamo free kick but Great Wall were level at the break through a cheeky Di Sun back heel.

After the break Mark Kekez went on a great solo run before finishing coolly and when Alan Abraham beat his defender he fired a shot in off the post to secure a memorable win.

Great Wall coach Drazen Kekez “We are very pleased to win, the boys are really performing well as a unit.”

An 85th minute Wade Chapman goal secured a point for Athelstone who drew 2-2 with AKFC.

AKFC took a 2-1 lead on 80 minutes but Chapman was on hand to header home his 2nd goal of the game to claim a point. Athelstone coach Martyn Hilliard “A draw was a fair result and after last week’s result our boys showed some real character today.”

CFC and Unley United shared the points in a 1-1 draw at SAWSA Park.

Unley took a lead on the half hour when Khaled Osman headed home.

On the hour CFC were level when Zhongjie Jiang got on the end of a through ball before finishing nicely.

Unley Coach Ben Tinagli “It was a tough game in tough conditions. A draw seems fair although we felt we had chances to win.”

CFC coach Mujtafa “I think we did well. We have some new players who are starting to gel together.”

I reckon the biggest Sunday surprise was Croatia beating TTG and Inter drawing (leading 3:0) with the Downs.
