Sunday Premier Round 10 Write Up

Post by Ossie »

A Dominant 1st half display from Elizabeth Downs helped secure a 3-0 win over Salisbury Inter at Argana Park.

The 2nd placed Downs were hoping to gain revenge over a team that defeated them 2-1 in round one while Inter were looking to get back on the winners list having lost their previous two league games.

It took 20 minutes for the Downs to take the lead when Scott Lindsay played a short corner to Mark Kelly and his cross found Matt Wise who headed home nicely.
The lead was doubled soon after when a Mat Watson through ball beat the offside trap and found Billy Allotey who steadied himself before coolly slotting his chance.

The win was all but sealed on 40 minutes when another short corner was crossed over by Scott Lindsay and Sean Brennan got on the end of it to head the Maroons 3-0 up.

The 2nd half saw both sides create some half chances but the damage was done in the opening stanza.

Downs coach Steve Hughes “To be fair Inter were missing a few players today but we needed a result and the boys had another really good first half to set up the win which was pleasing.”

TOP of the table Ingle Farm have run out 7-4 winners in an entertaining game against Salisbury Florina at Underdown Park.

Farm, who had drawn their last two league games, found themselves in a real contest with a 3-3 half time score line but the Championship favourites lifted the tempo to run away in the 2nd half.

Stefan Barletta bagged a hat trick for Farm while Ben Bermingham scored a double for Florina.

Farm coach Paul Simpson “After a couple of draws it was good to get back to winning ways.”
Florina coach Jeff McCormack “No complaints, we were beaten by a well drilled team today.”

BRAHMA Lodge remain firmly in Championship contention after a convincing 3-1 win over Para Hills East at Cockburn Green.

Lodge were looking to return to the winners list after sharing the points in round 9 with top of the table Ingle Farm while bottom of the table East were looking to build on their 4-0 thumping of Parafield Gardens.

Lodge opened strongly when Chad Bugeja got on the end of a 5th minute through ball before picking his spot coolly.

On the half hour the lead was doubled when Lewis Vallelonga was on hand to tap the ball home at the back post.
When Robbie McDonald converted a 55th minute penalty the game was sealed before Liam Fleming scored an 85th minute consolation for East.

Brahma Coach Fred Agius “I felt we controlled the game today and the boys deserved the win.”

ELIZABETH Vale has taken a huge step towards survival with a 4-0 win over Tea Tree Gully at Moflin Road.

The 8th placed Vale came into the game holding a one-point advantage over the 9th placed Gully in what was an old fashioned six pointer.

The Vale opened the scoring on 22 minutes when a Chris Nicholls cross picked out Bryn Fairman who scored neatly at the near post.

On 35 minutes the lead was doubled when some fine build up play finished with a cut back to Nicholls who slotted in style.

The home fans had more to cheer right on the halftime whistle when a Thierry Hatungimana through ball found Fairman who netted his 2nd goal to make it 3-0.
Five minutes into the 2nd half the game was over when Fairman got on the end of a Nicholls head down in the box before firing home his hat trick.

Vale coach Tim Crawford “Really happy with two home wins on the trot and our first clean sheet of the season is really pleasing.”

AN Alban Martini five goal master class was the difference as Parafield Gardens defeated Para Hills West 5-0 at Bradman Oval.

Gardens came into the game on the back of a poor 4-0 loss to bottom placed Para Hills East while the 4th placed Westies were looking to return to winning ways after a 3-1 loss at Elizabeth Downs.

Martini started his goal scoring spree with two in the 1st half, the first a left footed strike into the bottom corner which was followed by a bending strike from 18 yards which found the far corner.
Martini fired home a further three goals in the 2nd half to the delight of the Gardens support and coach John McCormack “We were poor last week and we asked for a response so it was really pleasing the way the boys played today.”

saw the BL v PHE game - the young referee did a fantastic job in referreeing - i'm very impressed with him - well done to him.

on the game BL have too many talented players to contend with although the PHE boys did try hard and managed to keep the scoreline down with some good saves from the goalie. I only wish the BL players show some humility and not be condescending to the opposition and even the referee.
