Sunday Premier Round 9 Write Up

Post by Ossie »

Match of the Day
INGLE Farm and Brahma Lodge have played out an entertaining 1-1 draw in their top of the table clash at Cockburn Green.

Brahma Lodge came into the game looking to reduce Farm’s five-point lead at the top and on 13 minutes they came close when striker Michael Mullen headed against the post.

On 27 minutes Farm had some good interplay but Daniel Rickard’s effort was well saved by Jimmy McKee.
The home fans were cheering on 35 minutes when a Chad Bugeja corner was clipped home at the front post by Robbie McDonald to make it 1-0.

Ten minutes into the 2nd half Farm’s Liam Mulvaney cut a ball back to Stefan Barletta but his goal bound effort was blocked just short of the line.

On 62 minutes Farm drew level when Barletta crossed and Rickard was on hand to fire the ball home. Three minutes later Lodge went close to regaining the lead when a Mark Graham header was well saved.

With 13 minutes left Farm’s Ala Mobedi put an effort just wide from long range and on 80 minutes Aleks Simic fired just wide from a Brahma corner.

Despite both sides efforts no one could find the winner as the game finished 1-1 which pleased Farm coach Paul Simpson “We were missing a few today so we are happy with the result and the effort of the boys.”

A SCOTT Lindsay hat trick helped Elizabeth Downs to a 4-1 win over Para Hills West at Argana Park.

Westies travelled North sitting 4th on the table only goal difference behind Elizabeth Downs but would find themselves three goals down at the break.

The opener came on 15 minutes when Lindsay got on the end of a corner at the far post before firing home from a tight angle.

Lindsay doubled the lead when he got on the end of a Billy Allotey pass to slot the goal from six yards and just before the break Lindsay turned provider with his cross finding Allotey who headed home in style.

Michael Iacovina’s Para Hills West have shown great character this season and they fought their way back into the game after the break with a Tom Foglia goal and soon after had a chance to make it 3-2 from the penalty spot but Foglia was denied by a fine Ben Aldridge save.

The game was sealed soon after when Lindsay was again on hand six yards out to slot a Brayden Gundlach pass.

The result moves the Downs to 2nd place only four points behind Ingle Farm.
Downs coach Steve Hughes “Really pleased with our 1st half display.” Westies coach Michael Iacovino agreed “The Downs were ruthless in the 1st half, the best team won today.”

A FIRST half double from Jarryd McLaughlin played its part in an upset 4-0 Para Hills East win over Parafield Gardens at Bradman Oval.

Gardens came into the game having taken the first points of league leader Ingle Farm in round 8 while Para Hills East were looking for their first away points of the season.

Easties had managed only three goals in their previous four away games but they would go to the half time break 3-0 up on the back of a McLauglin double and a Russell Clayton goal.

On 80 minutes the travelling East support was in full voice when Tom Humphries made a fine run before firing the ball home from 20 yards to make it 4-0.

East coach Alan O’Donnell was delighted with the result “It was a much better performance today, full of heart. We won every 1st and 2nd ball.”

A WILSON Taylor header 15 minutes from time secured a shock 2-1 win for Tea Tree Gully over Salisbury Inter at Underdown Park.

Inter looked certain winners on paper coming into the game having won all four home games while Gully had lost all four of their away fixtures but on 15 minutes Gully grabbed the lead when a corner was half cleared and Hamish Taylor volleyed it into the roof of the net.

On the half hour Inter were level when Andy McConnell reacted quickest to finish from close range.

Gully were again in front on 70 minutes when a Dillon Rocca cross was headed home brilliantly by Wilson Taylor.
Inter pushed hard and were helped when Gully were reduced to 10 men on 75 minutes and then nine men on 88 minutes but despite Inter’s efforts Gully held firm for a vital win.

Gully coach Mat Flounders “I’m over the moon with the result, the boys deserved that today.”
Inter coach Steve Cook “It felt like one that got away today.”

ELIZABETH Vale ended a seven-game winless run in the league with a 2-1 win over Salisbury Florina at Moflin Road.

Florina came into the game in 7th place, four points ahead of the 8th placed Vale knowing that a win would go a long way to securing survival.

The Vale would have been happy with a solid first half display but one minute into the 2nd half they were behind when Florina’s Trevor Hall fired home from the edge of the box.

The home team equalised on 65 minutes through new recruit Thierry Hatungimana and then five minutes later the Vale grabbed the lead when Bryn Fairman cut in from wide, first rounding a defender and then the keeper before slotting his chance.

Vale Coach Tim Crawford “I thought our first half deserved more but I'm really pleased for the lads.”

Have to mention and praise the ref in the Downs-Westies ressies game - refereed sensibly, communicated with the players before, during and after the game and went through the game without making rash decisions and maintaining control and letting the game flow. Great performance.
