INGLE Farm have increased their lead at the top of the table to five points after a 1-0 win over Salisbury Inter at Walkleys Oval.

Farm came into the game looking to make it six wins from six while the 2nd placed Salisbury Inter travelled knowing that a win would draw them level on points with the home team.

Inter had half a chance on 12 minutes when a scuffed Nathan Pettit shot found Jimmy Greaves but his snap shot on goal was well held by the Farm keeper.

The game was played with intensity but was short on genuine chances and the decisive moment came on 49 minutes when Musti Ipekdal picked the ball up on the right-hand side of the 18-yard box before turning and curly a peach of a goal into the far corner.

Inter pushed hard in tough conditions but struggled to turn possession into opportunities against a defence that has conceded just one goal in their opening six league games.

Inter coach Steve Cook was left feeling disappointed “I thought the boys played the better football today and deserved something from the game.”

ELIZABETH Downs moved into 2nd spot after a 4-0 win over local rival Elizabeth Vale at Moflin Road.

The Maroons were in search of their first win on the road after picking up only one point in their previous two away games while the Vale were looking to end a four-game winless run in the league.

The opening goal came on 38 minutes through a penalty which was coolly converted by Scott Lindsay.
Two minutes after the break the lead was doubled when a cut back from Brayden Gundlach was slotted home through the left foot of Tommy Blackett.

The result was put to bed when Lindsay scored his 2nd and substitute Jason Trimboli rounded out the scoring with a nice finish late on.

Downs coach Steven Hughes “It’s good to keep the winning run going and we look forward to playing Farm next week.”

A Barney Heleta goal 10 minutes from time helped Salisbury Florina secure a point in a 3-3 draw with Parafield Gardens at Underdown Park.

All looked good for Gardens as they skipped out to a two-goal lead with goals from Alban Martini and Daniel Roadley but soon after they were reduced to ten men when Paul Whitney received a 2nd yellow card.
Soon after the Gardens send-off Florina found the net through Ben Birmingham.

After the break Gardens regained their two-goal advantage through Kyle Jones before a Scott Wiedenbach own goal made it 3-2.

With ten minutes left on the clock Florina broke at pace and Heleta got on the end of a Johnny Papandrea cross to tap the ball home.

Florina coach Jeff McCormack “It was a really tough game and it’s a crucial point for us.”

PARA Hills West returned to the winners list with a hard fought 1-0 win over local rival Para Hills East at Para Hills Oval.

The game was played in typical derby fashion with no quarter asked or given.

The winning goal came right on the half time whistle through the ever-dangerous Tom Foglia who got on the end of a through ball before finishing in style.

Easties showed plenty of character in the 2nd half as they pushed for an equalizer but a fine performance from keeper David Brook ensured that all three points travelled West.

Westies Coach Michael Iacovino “It was a really good derby game. Easties played well and could easily have got something from the game but our boys fought it out well.”
East Coach Alan O’Donnell “I was really proud of the boys today. We played with real intensity and on another day could have taken all three points.”

BRAHMA Lodge left it late to defeat a determined Tea Tree Gully finally running out 4-2 winners at Cockburn Green.

Lodge took a lead on five minutes but that was short lived as Gully drew level on 10 minutes through a Morgan Taylor header.

Lodge were reduced to ten men early in the 2nd half and then went behind when Hamish Taylor made a superb solo run before finishing in style with a top corner strike.

With 15 minutes remaining a shock looked on the cards before Brahma stormed home with three goals to flatten the visiting Gully.

Gully coach Mat Flounders “Im gutted for the boys because for 80 odd minutes we were fantastic. Brahma’s a big strong team but our boys matched them today which is encouraging.”
