Challenge Cup 1st Round Write Up

Post by Ossie »

Match of the Day
2017 CHALLENGE Cup Runners Up Para Hills West have moved through to round 2 with a 6-0 win over Northern Wolves at Ridley Reserve.

The Saturday 2nd Division Wolves opened brightly and were unlucky not to be in front when the pace of Ali Abassi saw him burst into the box but his chip over the keeper hit the post and was then cleared off the line.

Westies settled into the game and took a 25th minute lead when a fine Dillon Nielson run finished with a cut back to Jarred Ebert who slotted coolly.

Abassi had another opportunity on the half hour when he got on the end of a through ball but his effort was well saved by the experienced David Brook.

The lead was doubled on 43 minutes when a pin pint cross found David Jones who picked hi spot with a well-placed header.

Four minutes after the break was all but over when Westies were awarded a penalty kick that Luke Ayres converted with ease.
Westies were now full of confidence and on 57 minutes a quality Ebert ball found Lewis Marzocca who headed home and on the hour Kurtis Cracknell lobbed the out coming Wolves keeper.

With three minutes left on the clock another Ebert cross was again met by Marzocca to make it 6-0.

Para Hills West coach Michael Iacovino “They are a good side and it was tight early but as the game went on I felt we started to take control.”
Wolves coach Chris Kiannopoulos “I was happy with the way our young boys played. It was a great experience for them to play against a Premier division opponent.”

IN OTHER GAMES Salisbury Inter destroyed 3rd Division Angle Vale 11-0 with Dan Luciano finding the net four times while Andy McConnell scored a hat trick.
Cup holders Elizabeth Downs made light work of 3rd Division opponent Savoy winning 7-0 at Argana Park with Jason Trimboli and Billy Allotey both scoring a brace.

Para Hills East needed an extra time Jake McCabe goal to holdoff Saturday 3rd Division Pitbull’s 2-1, while 2016 Cup Winners Brahma Lodge also needed extra time to progress with a 4-1 win over Adelaide Wanderers.

A goal ten minutes from time by Player/coach Tim Crawford helped Elizabeth Vale to a 2-1 win over Flinders Uni at Moflin Road. Parafield Gardens came from behind to win 2-1 over Gleeson with youngster Alun Crockford scoring the decisive goal.
