Round 2 Sunday Premier Division Round up

Post by Ossie »

A dominant Parafield Gardens have run out convincing 6-0 winners over Salisbury Inter at Bradman Oval.
The visiting Inter were looking to build on a 2-1 win over championship favourites Elizabeth Downs while Gardens were looking for their first points after a 3-2 loss to Para Hills West in the opening round.

Gardens started the game at break neck speed and took the lead on six minutes when a Scott Wiedenbach through ball found Paul Whitney who brushed off his defender before slotting his chance.

Two minutes later the lead was doubled when a foul inside the box saw a penalty awarded and Wiedenbach stepped up to cool slide the ball home.
The home team were totally dominant and were unlucky not to extend their lead with Alban Martini being denied by a fine Josh Foreshaw save.

On 36 minutes the game was all but over when a long ball over the defence found Whitney who rounded the keeper before walking the ball into the net.
After the break it was more of the same with Martini slotting the 4th to the delight of the Gardens faithful before Gabriel Veron and Kyle Jones rounded out the scoring in what was a clinical display by the home team.

Gardens coach John McCormack “We came to play today. We were really good and created lots of chances.”

Brahma Lodge made it two wins from two with a come from behind 2-1 win over a gallant Para Hills West at Cockburn Green.
Both teams came into the game on the back of impressive 1st round wins and it was Westies who went to the break 1-0 in front when Jarred Ebert fired home a low and hard strike from 20 yards in stoppage time of the 1st half.

Lodge drew level on the hour when a freekick was deflected into the West net for an own goal and five minutes later a foul in the box earned the home team a penalty which Michael Mullen converted.

West coach Michael Iacovino “Full credit to Brahma for coming back but I’m very proud of our effort today. Our boys worked so hard and I felt we were unlucky not to get something from the game.”

A Jason Trimboli double helped Elizabeth Downs to a 3-1 win over Tea Tree Gully at Argana Park.

Both teams came into the game looking for their first points of the campaign having both lost on the opening day and it was the Maroons who struck first on 15-minutes when the experienced Trimboli fired home from an acute angle.

Ten minutes after the break some nice inter play finished with a Tommy Blackett pass to Scott Lindsay who picked his spot neatly from 15 yards.
On the hour Trimboli pressured the Gully keeper into a mistake before pouncing to score his 2nd making it 3-0.

Gully fought hard all day and deserved their consolation goal on 82 minutes with Emmanuel Akakpo scoring for the visitors.

Downs coach Steve Hughes “The 1st win is often the hardest. I thought our 2nd half performance was good, we held the ball well and can take that into next week.”
Gully coach Mat Flounders “I thought the score line was harsh on us. They are a very experienced team who punished our mistakes.”

INGLE Farm have continued its bright start to the season with a 5-1 win over Elizabeth Vale at Moflin Road.

The Vale opened the scoring on four minutes with the inform Mark Burbridge heading home but that lead didn’t last long with Sonny Murrell equalizing soon after through a header.

Farm found themselves in front when James Quinn was played in before coolly sliding the ball home and the visitors went to the break 3-1 up when James Parker scored from close range.

The game was killed off on 68 minutes when Jarrod Noel scored while Liam Mulvaney rounded out the scoring for the visitors.
Farm coach Paul Simpson “We’ve started well and today the new players into the team showed what they are capable of.”

John Papabreau scored twice in Salisbury Florina’s 6-1 win over Para Hills East at Underdown Park.

East took the lead through a Tyler Winn strike before Papabreau cancelled that out with a tap in as the teams went to the break locked at 1-1.

Florina opened the 2nd half in style with goals from Tom Stoneham and Papabreau in the opening five minutes.
Trevor Hall, Simon Wegner and an Easties own goal rounded out a thoroughly convincing win for the home team.

Florina coach Jeff McCormack “It was a very important result for us just to keep us with the pack at this early stage.”
