After 43 years, and after much deliberation, it’s with great sadness that we announce that Adelaide Villa will be withdrawing all three of its amateur league teams for the 2018 SAASL season.

We have a very proud history having won the top three divisions of both the Saturday and Sunday Amateur leagues, and have been graced with many great players and people, but to run a successful and competitive club, takes a lot of time by committed individuals. This invariably impacts family and work life, and with an ever diminishing committee and volunteer base, it is no longer feasible for the club to continue and compete to the level that we are accustomed too. We sought to find other alternatives and bring new people on board, but have come to this point after exhausting all avenues.

We take this opportunity to thank all those who have contributed to the club over the years and we apologise to the players who were looking forward to wearing the Adelaide Villa colour’s in 2018, but thought it only fair to give you all as much notice as possible, to organize your playing futures.

We take with us many fantastic memories, great victories on the pitch and many, many laughs off it. Thankfully the many great friendships forged during these years will continue to endure.

The Adelaide Villa name will continue on as we enter a over 35 team in the SA Masters League that will play on Sunday mornings in 2018.

The Adelaide Villa committee wish all our players the very best for their future playing endeavours and again thank you for your contributions over the years.

Such a shame for this to have happened.
I agree with the commitment that individual volunteers give to run a club, the hours and sacrifice go unrecognised by many.

I don't actually think that players realise how much goes on behind the scene to run a club no matter how big or small they are.
The same could be said about coaching these teams especially those who I know coach both first team and reserves in the lower leagues.

Endemic attitude at so many 'clubs'....know fully how you feel...as someone who treasures the history of the SAASL it's a sad day indeed.

unfortunately everything is just too bloody expensive these days. that is at the heart of all clubs problems nowadays,in fact that goes for the country as a whole actualy.

I think it is more about general apathy, players just want to rock up and play, sometimes even that is too hard...end of.

Very sad to hear - historically a strong Club.

Always looked forward to the "Villa Derby" since we first played them in the early 90's
(even though they were too good for us on the pitch most of the time!)

Were involved in one of the most historic days at our Club a few years back, when the late Bruno Costanzo
cut off his famous locks to raise funds for the Leukemia Foundation, and acquitted themselves beautifully
earlier this season during our annual Pre-Season Cup.
