Craig Laird's SAASL Sunday Premier Division Round Up
Roun 18 - Sunday September 10, 2017

Match of the Day
PARA Hills East have survived in the Premier division despite losing 4-0 to Salisbury Florina on a dramatic final day at Para Hills Oval.
East came into the game needing to match the Modbury Vista result against Brahma Lodge at Richardson Reserve to ensure survival.
Before Easties had even settled into the game news filtered through that Modbury Vista had gone 2-0 up within the first three minutes placing East into the relegation zone.
East’s Timmy Watson went close on 10 minutes when his shot was well saved and moments later the ever dangerous Florina striker Jason Trimboli fired wide for the vsiitors.
Florina added to the East concerns when they took the lead on 22 minutes.
A long ball was misjudged by the East defense and Kale Wicker nipped in behind before lobbing the outcoming Keegan French.
On 34 minutes Florina increased their lead when Trimboli turned two defenders before showing great skill with a deft chip over French in the East goal.
Easties went to the break 2-0 down but spirits were buoyed by news that Brahma Lodge had drawn level 2-2 with Modbury Vista.
The home team, knowing they were in the bottom two at half time, came out with more energy and on 50 minutes were unlucky when Jack Wegener poked a ball just past the post.
East were pushing hard but couldn’t net a host of half chances while at the other end Luke Singlewood and Cale Wicker went desperatly close with long range efforts.
On 71 minutes BJ McCormack cannoned a shot off the crossbar before Tyler Winn skied over for East from close range.
Survival was taken out of the home teams hands on 81 minutes when Trimboli fired a first time missile into the top right hand corner and he netted again on 85 minutes to make it 4-0.
East hopes now required a Brahma win over Modbury Vista.
The news filtered through that a dominant Lodge 2nd half had seen them run out 5-2 winners to seal Vista’s fate and confirm that Para Hills East would be part of the top division next season.
Para Hills East coach Ryan Bastable “This year has been an experience for us all. The positive thing is we have survived and we will look to stregthen in certain areas for next year and we will go again.”

CHAMPIONS Elizabeth Downs have accomplished the rare feat of an undefeated league season after a 2-0 win over Ingle Farm at Argana Park.
To Ingle Farm’s credit the first half was an even affair that saw both sides create chances but it was the Maroons who opened the scoring on 27 minutes.
The pacy Braiden Gundlach picked the ball up on half way before slaloming his way through the Farm defense and netting in style.
Downs doubled their lead on 32 minutes when a similar run from Billy Allotey ended with a measured cross that Ben McMullen headed home.
The Maroons fifth Premier Division title may well be their best having gone undefeated as well as banging in an amazing 90 goals in their 18 matches.
A fitting way for Coach Alan Mottram to end his coaching tenure at the club “Its an awesome feeling to finish this way. We still have the Cup to concentrate on but I’ve been delighted with the way the boys have performed in the League.”

ELIZABETH Vale have ended a fine league campaign with a 5-2 win over the bottom placed Southern Knighst at Moflin Road.
The home team opened the scoring on 25 minutes when Michael Francis got on the end of a through ball before finishing coolly.
Tom Foglia brought Knights back into the game with a goal todraw the visitors level.
Moments later Cameron Dobbin drove the ball home to make it 2-1 before the break.
A Jimmy Greaves goal gave a Vale two goal advantage and then Chris Nicholls all but sealed victory with a headed goal making it 4-1.
Foglia converted from the penalty spot for his 2nd (and 16th. for the season) Francis, likewise finished calmly from the spot soon after to secure the 5-2 win.
Vale coach Tim Crawford “We’ve had a strong finish to the season and look forward to next weeks semi final.”
TWO goals in the last 15 minutes have helped Salisbury Inter to a 3-1 win over league runners up Parafield Gardens at Underdown Park.
Inter opened the scoring on 20 minutes when Marcus Marchioro pounced on a loose ball in the box before slotting it home.
Gardens equalised on 65 minutes when Simon Catanzaro scored after a defensive Inter error.
With 15 nminutes left on the clock a Chris Fleming cross from the right was well met by the inform Nathan Pettit to make it 2-1 and the game was sealed on 85 minutes when Marchioro got on the end of a Simon Ielasi long ball before finishing calmly.
Inter coach Steve Cook “It was a good way to end the season.”

Good fortune due to SAASL lack of common sense and incompetence in removing 3 pts from Brahma Lodge !

Vista deduction of 3 pts is based on a technicality whereas Brahma Lodge deduction of 3 pts is a ridiculous decision - could BL appealed against this decision ?

I'm hearing Billy Allotey, Matt Watson, Jason Trimboli all on 21 goals.

(Tom Foglia managed 16 despite Knights only gaining 6 points)

Yes, would be a nightmare, having said that, if we don't get our act together for next year he deserves a better club. Division 2 is more our level and lots of close games (in terms of Geography) so hopefully we have a much better year

No wonder he celebrated the one he got against the Downs when they lost 7-1 so much!
