Craig Laird's SAASL Sunday Premier Division Round Up

Post by manu1 »

PARAFIELD Gardens have made it four wins on the bounce with a 3-1 win over Ingle Farm at Bradman Oval.
Gardens were looking to build on an impressive 3-2 win over champions Brahma Lodge and on 18 minutes they took the lead when a long distance effort from gun recruit Aaron Westervelt took a wicked deflection giving Farm keeper Tony Shaw no chance.
Two minutes later the lead was doubled when Westervelt teamed superbly with Alban Martini before Martini blasted the ball home.
Farm have found some form in recent weeks after a rocky start and on 32 minutes they were back in the game when Connor O’Donnell cut in from the right hand side before playing in Matt Cox who slotted his chance coolly.
Cox had a chance moments later to equalize when Liam Mulvaney crossed from the left but Cox’s point blank shot was straight at Gardens keeper Kieren Griffiths.
On 51 minutes a long ball evaded the Farm defence and fell to Oathman Fazilahmed who picked his spot making it 3-1.
Farm dominated the last twenty minutes in which many chances were created but some wasteful finishing saw Gardens walk away with a fourth successive win.

ELIZABETH Downs have come from behind to beat a stubborn Modbury Vista 4-1 at Argana Park.
The top vs bottom match up had most tipping an easy Downs victory but the visiting Vista showed they were up for the fight taking a 1-0 lead to the break.
The Maroons drew level on 55 minutes when a defence splitting Matt Wise through ball found Billy Allotey who slotted his chance.
Moments later Vista were reduced to 10 men and the Downs took a strangle hold on the game with Wise heading home from a corner to give the home team a 2-1 lead.
Allotey then rose above the Vista defence to head home his 2nd and Tommy Blackett rounded out the scoring with another header from a corner.
Downs coach Alan Mottram “Vista looked good for a point today so I was pleased with our boy’s response.”

A Jason Trimboli goal ten minutes from time has seen Salisbury Florina share the points with Elizabeth Vale 1-1 at Moflin Road.
The Vale grabbed the opener on 45 minutes when Jarred Ebert played in Mark Burbridge who rounded the keeper before sliding the ball into the net.
Florina refused to give in and on 80 minutes a long ball wasn’t cleared by the Vale defence and Trimboli did what he does best to head home the equalizer.
Vale coach Tim Crawford “The boys effort is great but we need to stop giving away silly goals.”

BRAHMA Lodge’s title defence lay in tatters after a 2-1 loss to Salisbury Inter at Underdown Park.
Lodge came into the game sitting six points below the top of the table Downs and on 25 minutes they took the lead when a Jay Crescenzi corner found the back of the net.
Just before the break the home side equalized when a Matt Marchioro shot deflected into the path of Chris Fleming who fired home from close range.
Inter, who were disappointing in a 2-0 loss to rival Salisbury Florina last week, grabbed the deciding goal when a Matt Centrone free kick could only be parried by Lodge keeper Jimmy McKee and Inter’s Rio Leatomu was on hand to fire home.
Inter coach Steve Cook “I was really pleased with the response from the boys to last week’s disappointing result.”
PARA Hills East have moved out of the bottom two after an impressive 4-2 win over Southern Knights at Southern Knights Oval.
East took control of the game with an inspired first half display which saw them 3-0 up at the break.
Angus Ducker scored the opener after a goal mouth scramble on 10 minutes before Jake McCabe crafted a chance for Jack Wegener who swept the ball home and on 43 minutes Luke Storti headed home from a corner.
Three minutes after the break Knights Tom Foglia made it 3-1 but the travelling East settled nerves on 75 minutes when Wegener scored his 2nd before a late Knights consolation goal, a second for Tom Foglia, made it 4-2.
East coach Ryan Bastable “We expected a really tough game today but our first half really showed what the boys are capable of.”
