Eleven Adult FC

AN ELIZABETH soccer club will be able to attract more members of the African community to the sport after receiving a Northern Messenger grant.

SA Amateur Soccer League club Eleven Adult comprises mainly African players, including former refugees from countries such as Burundi, Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo.

But it has limited resources and struggles to make ends meet off the pitch.

This week, the Sunday division five club was announced as the winner of the $5000 Local Sports Grant, which is sponsored by Parafield Airport Liquor Store, Para Hills Community Club and Farmer Joe’s Fresh Fruit Barn, Port Adelaide.

Eleven Adult president Jean Claude Hakizimana says the money will go towards new balls, uniforms and medical equipment, as well as training coaches and officials.

“The number one goal of the club is helping families in our community,” says Hakizimana.

“This (grant) is very important for us.

“The equipment we have had in the past is almost finished and we’ve been a bit unlucky because someone stole the uniform bag.”

Hakizimana came to Australia in 2008 after spending the previous seven years living in a refugee camp in Tanzania.

He fled his home country, Burundi, during its civil war, which claimed the life of his father.

Eleven Adult finished second in the fifth tier this year.

The club was established in 2011 and joined the SA Amateur Soccer League in 2013, starting in division seven.

Hakizimana says the grant will help the club immensely and his teammates are thrilled.

“We are so lucky,” he said.

I remember our C2 team a couple of years ago were hosting them on the bottom pitch and after the first team game we had put the food out and they got their kids to come in and steal it all! Had kids walking out with 2-3 sausages in their hands

Should they be giving back their money?

Eleven Adult FC banned indefinitely from SA amateur soccer league after four players allegedly chased, threatened referee
James Gratton, The Advertiser
July 30, 2017 6:37pm

A NORTHERN suburbs amateur soccer club has been banned indefinitely after a referee was allegedly chased from the field and threatened by players.

The South Australian Amateur Soccer League has sidelined the Elizabeth South-based club Eleven Adult FC indefinitely after its division 5 match with Polonia Soccer Club at Croydon Park on July 2 was abandoned.

A league investigation found the game was called off in the 88th minute after the referee felt unsafe and threatened by members of the Eleven Adult FC team.

Four players from Eleven Adult FC were sent off the field for unsportsmanlike behaviour and offensive language before the game was abandoned — with Polonia leading 4-0.

The referee was then chased off the oval by two players, with one allegedly attempting to hit him after the game was called off.

Polonia officials were forced to come to the aid of the official.

The incident was reported to the league by the official following the game.

After the match, the South Australian Amateur Soccer Referees Association decided it would not provide any referees for future Eleven Adult FC games due to a duty of care to its members.

Amateur Soccer League secretary Alex Cichanowski said there was no room for threatening behaviour in soccer.

“They found it difficult to accept the decision made by the referee and then began chasing the referee,” Mr Cichanowski said.

“They have been suspended until they can demonstrate that they have got some control and discipline in place.

“They have since written to the referees, but it doesn’t really address their concerns.”

The league has had no issues with the team before, according to Mr Cichanowski.

Club president Jean-Claude Hakizimana was disappointed by the league’s decision.

“The report I got from our club was the referee was being unfair to our side,” Mr Hakizimana said.

“One of the players wanted to hit the referee because he wouldn’t explain why he finished the game early.

“It is very disappointing because I don’t see how they can stop us from playing for the rest of the season.”

Eleven Adult FC was established in 2011 and joined the SA Amateur Soccer League in 2013, starting in division seven.

It trains and plays at Ridley Reserve in Elizabeth South.

4-0 down with 2 minutes to go, sounds like not much problem stopping the game haha.

 , well that's OK then, can't have ref's giving decisions we think are unfair, he probably deserved a good beating.

Referee at the Brahma v Knights game (who was very good) stopped the game a bit early - although losing, I was delighted
