MATCH OF THE DAY
ELIZABETH DOWNS vs SALISBURY INTER
A Braiden Gundlach first half hat trick has helped Elizabeth Downs to a 5-2 win over Salisbury Inter at Argana Park.
The Maroons got off to the perfect start on four minutes when a Michael Cartwright ball picked out Scott Lindsay before falling to Gundlach who hammered it home.
Four minutes later the lead was doubled when a Tommy Blackett cross was headed home by Gundlach.
Inter fought back on 18 minutes when an Andrew Butler cross was neatly tucked away by Alban Martini and two minutes later Marcus Marchioro fired wide from close range.
The Downs took a two goal advantage to the break when Matthew Wise played in Gundlach who slid the ball past the out coming Inter keeper on 37 minutes.
On 47 minutes Downs keeper Ben Aldridge made two fine saves to deny shots from Daniel Roadley and Andrew Butler before Gundlach scored his fourth goal with a clinical finish from the edge of the box.
Martini kept Inter hopes alive with his 2nd goal on 62 minutes but a fine Ben De Bono solo effort ended any faint hopes as the Maroons strolled to a sixth successive victory.
BRAHMA Lodge are within one win of their first Premier Division title after a 4-1 victory over Salisbury Florina at Cockburn Green.
The league leaders struck on 20 minutes when a Matthew Bekirovski free kick was headed home by Robbie Macdonald.
The two combined again on 35 minutes when a Bekirovski long throw found Macdonald who turned and fired the ball home to make it 2-0 at the break.
The game was sealed on 65 minutes when Macdonald turned provider with a cut back to Michael Mullen who tapped the ball home before Macdonald secured his hat trick on 75 minutes.
ELIZABETH Vale caused the upset of the round with a come from behind 3-1 win over Ingle Farm at Walkleys Park.
Farm took a 1-0 lead to half time thanks to a quality finish from striker Pro Loizides but it would all unravel for the home team in the last 15 minutes of the game.
An Aaron Westerveld goal from a free kick made it 1-1 before the experienced Chris Nicholls scored from a cross and the win was sealed moments from time Westerveld struck home his 2nd to the delight of the travelling Vale support.
ELIZABETH Grove tasted their first win in the league in over a month with a 4-0 win over the bottom placed Tea Tree Gully at Tilley Reserve.
The Peckers struck on 25 minutes when a fine Brad Docherty through ball found Gaje Ferdinand who finished neatly.
Cameron Taylor headed home the Grove’s 2nd goal from a corner and Kahmen Grieg rounded out a fine first half from the visitors with a brilliant solo effort to make it 3-0.
The win was rounded off on 70 minutes with Jarred Foster finding the net.
PARAFIELD Gardens recovered from going a goal down to run out 3-1 winners over West Beach at Bradman Oval.
The relegated Beach took the lead on eight minutes as Kevin O’Neill capitalised on a Gardens defensive error before finishing well.
Gardens Paul Whitney then scored twice before half time as on both occasions he was played through before slotting the ball home in style.
Bud Hilton’s West Beach fought hard in the 2nd half but the win was sealed in stoppage time with coach Louis Brain scoring the 3rd for the home team.
