MATCH OF THE DAY
INGLE FARM vs BRAHMA LODGE
TOP of the table Brahma Lodge have suffered their 1st defeat of the season after an injury time Shane Pearce goal guided Ingle Farm to a 2-1 win at Walkleys Oval.
Brahma came into the game having won all nine of their league games this season while the reigning champions Ingle Farm were looking to reduce a nine point gap behind the leaders.
Farm started the game well and were unlucky not to lead on 37 minutes when some good build up play saw the ball finish with Procopis Loizides whose shot cannoned off the crossbar.
Lodge took the lead on 40 minutes against the run of play when a long ball over the top beat the offside trap and Michael Mullen lobbed the out coming keeper before the heading the ball into the open net.
After the break the visiting Brahma pushed for a 2nd goal with Mullen shooting just over on 53 minutes and on 75 minutes he had a goal bound effort well saved by Farm keeper Tony Shaw.
The game came to life on 83 minutes when a Marcus Francesca corner was headed home by Farm captain Dean Kenrick to set up a grandstand finish and it came on 90 minutes when Farm substitutes Salli Tursun played in Shane Pearce who coolly slotted his chance to the cheers of the home support.
Farm player Chris Ennis “We really had to work hard to break them down but over the 90 minutes we felt we deserved the win.”
A stoppage time goal from Michael Cartwright has seen Elizabeth Downs defeat West Beach 2-1 at Argana Park and narrow the gap at the top of the table to two points.
Bottom placed West Beach took a lead on the half hour through a Blake Hillas own goal but the home team drew level on 65 minutes when Ben DeBono scrambled a header over the line.
Beach held firm until stoppage time when the Maroons pushed forward and when Braiden Gundlach found Cartwright at the front post he swept the ball into the roof of the net.
Alan Mottram “We got out of jail today but we look forward to playing Brahma Lodge next week.”
AN Anthony grenache goal eight minutes from time has sealed a 2-1 win for Elizabeth Grove over rival Elizabeth Vale at Dauntsey Road.
The Peckers took the lead through Brad Docherty on 38 minutes before the Vale drew level through a penalty on 65 minutes but the Peckers secured the three points when Reece Knox found grenache who slotted the ball home.
SALISBURY Florina has made it three wins from four games with a 4-2 win over Parafield Gardens at Bradman Oval.
Florina opened the scoring on 25 minutes through a Brad Boocock header and doubled their lead on 65 minutes when substitute Jason Trimboli struck with his first touch.
Trimboli was at it again on 75 minutes when he headed his 2nd goal and he then turned provider playing in Luke Singlewood to make it 4-0 before Gardens netted two consolation goals in the last ten minutes.
Meanwhile Salisbury Inter have made it 16 goals in two weeks with a thumping 7-0 win over the battling Tea Tree Gully at Underdown Park.
