Sunday 2nd Div Promotion and relegation

Post by magic »

Interesting.round in Div 2 this week.
Westies top the league on 18pts but must be disappointed with a 3-3 draw with second bottom Savoy yesterday.
That result gives Easties (14pts)a chance to close the gap to 1pt if they can beat the struggling Angle Vale (8pts).
Raptors (12pts) host Knights (12pts) in the match of the round.
The losers would be left 5pts from the promotion spot.
Vista (12pts)will be keen to cash in and improve thier promotion chances with a win over bottom placed Macedonia (3pts).
The Macedonia hierarchy may have to ring some big changes to maintain thier 2nd Div status as will Savoy and the disappointing Foxes.
Pontian(10pts) play Ghan(10pts) with the winner distancing themselves from the bottom 3 clubs

It also gives the other top half of the group to catch up to the top 2 teams with some the teams closing the gap to PHW within 3 pts making the next half of the season a very tight affair for the top 2 spots.

Sounds like a typical 2nd division season. If you don't play well anyone can beat you on their day.

It's definitely typical 2nd Division !!
If clubs dont prepare for this league properly it will cost them.
Only 3 points separate the top 4 clubs.
Westies (18pts)still on top but only by a point to Easties (17pts)who smashed a sadly disorganised Angle Vale 7-1.
Knights are 3rd (15pts) after a solid 2-0 win over Raptors.
Vista (15pts) kept the pressure up by thumping a hopeless Macedonia 6-0.
Raptors (12pts) lead Ghan and Pontian both on 11 puts are still within striking distance.
Angle Vale (8pts), Savoy (4pts) and Macedonia (3pts) look like the ones to fight the relegation battles.
Goal averages will be at a premium to decide promotion and relegation so look out for some high scoring games.

So how does it work, is it a straight 2 up, 2 down? (new to amateurs)

2 go up 2 come down from the Premier Division....
Unless a team in the Premier Division folds or moves to perceived greener pastures...then 3 will go up but still only 2 down.
However, if they (the SAASL) decided to make the Premier Division a 12 team Division then it might be 4 teams go up...and still only 2 down.
Unless they decide 2 will go up and there will be no relegation from the Premier Division.
However it is more than likely the first option of 2 up 2 down.
Hope that is clearer now :D

Maybe, but sometimes it can be so much more expensive keeping the grass greener when you are there.

Would had been more goals but for some fine saves by the Macedonia goalie particularly a belter of a 10 m volley near RH post from a MV player

Was it the old guy in goals again? massive (Serbian I think) bloke who has been there for years? he is an absolute gun!

Its probably him - he is certainly tall and strong and can easily play in the NPL without no doubt - to stop that 10 m volley was impressive !

GOALS,GOALS,GOALS this week,at both ends of the table, can dictate promotion or relegation.
WESTIES in top place face a difficult 5th placed RAPTORS. Both clubs need to win this.
VISTA 4th, face a rather disappointing Pontian struggling in 7th place. The Eagles need to win this to keep thier season alive.
GHAN 6TH, play Savoy 9th. A win will consolidate Ghans place in this division.
EASTIES (2nd) will be confident of a healthy win over bottom place MACEDONIA.
KNIGHTS (3rd) host ANGLE VALE (8th).The Knights will push hard to score a lot of goals against the struggling foxes.

Macedonia pathetic today, Easties won 7:0 in first team. Couple of players decided arguing with the fans than concentrating on the football

Savoy are getting the best results of the bottom three.
Angle Vale have fell apart from the team that promised so much last year.
Macedonia have been poor all year and.have to react quickly and install some quality players/coaches to save thier 2nd Division status.
Interesting this week. Macedonia vs Angle Vale. Macedonia cannot afford to draw.

4pts between the top four teams.
Westies 1st (21pts) v Knights 3rd (18pts) is the game of the round.
2nd placed Easties (20pts) will be looking for another 3pts with victory over 8th place Pontian (11pts).
Vista 4th (18pts) will be expected to beat Savoy 9th(4pts).
Ghan 5th (14pts) host Raptors 6th(12pts). Both clubs will be looking for a good result to break away.from the relegation zone.
Macedonia 10th (3pts) play ANGLE Vale 8th (8pts) in a must win game for both clubs.
