Ref Appreciation

Post by English »

Figured with all the terrible referees around, would be good to praise one that I hadn't seen before. Was a young lad, he communicated well with players, remembered coaches names and didn't get hot headed when a bit of a scuffle broke out. Even took the time out to address the Pirie Reserves coach to directly explain his decision. Sadly he was too good, so I doubt we'll see him doing Div 2 Reserves again!

Easily the best referee I've had as a coach.

We have enjoyed good referees so far this season in both A's and B's, had Brad French yesterday was good as always one contentious last minute call, but was the assistant who made it and he did what I guess he is supposed to do and listened to him
Are you Bodo in disguise?

Home ref on the weekend, C&B ref was an absolute disgrace, first 10 mins of Ressies game a player spat on our player in plain view of linesman and his team mates. To the credit of the home players some abused the player, yet the ref allowed it even after speaking with the linesman who agreed the action took place. After all this the ref took no action what so ever, either did the coach, however after another 10-15 minutes the coach took the player off possibly for his own safety.

A ref can't send someone off on the basis of what is said by a club linesman. That could lead to anarchy.

Jeff McCormack, worst C Grade ref in the league. He's always so bloody fair lol.

Young lady reffed C2s and Cs for Farm on the weekend. Did okay in most parts, some calls and non-calls frustrated both teams. Well done to her for doing the gig though - is never easy.

Though: must be more aware of league rules with the length of C games. Ran late in the C2s which meant the Cs second half was cut short when the Reserves ref called time at 1:05pm. That will come with experience.

so why ask the linesman what he saw?

I don't know but surely you can understand why you can't rely on a club linesman for a sending off offence like that.
