and yes I know I could of asked this if I attended the AGM but I was unaware of it until now.

Where else you gunna put it ? The SAASL are doing a great job of keeping fees down for its member clubs !!

SAASL Clubs are prospering where as FFSA clubs keep talking up a breakaway league due to high costs !!

All seems well and good with management of the SAASL - well done to Bill, Alex and the boys

Without the money in the bank they would have had to increase fees yearly...apart from the new 'all year round' player insurance scheme, there have been no increase in team or player registration fees for 10 years...if that financial backup wasn't there they might have to find a way to raise another $50k from member clubs...

I agree its good to have money in the bank... but do they need that much? Areas I would allocate some funds too
1- Hire more staff in various areas so that things run better, an minor example being website being constantly wrong and weeks behind (which I believe there is a new system in place, however im just using an example for this past season) , major example being taking how long it takes to come up with penalties for clubs playing fake players or clubs who continually do the wrong thing
2- invest in refereeing , it needs it - quite urgently , pay more money to them , get someone in to train them / have more training sessions/ get more refs/linesman in general - have more inspectors at games to ensure quality etc - surely $100k would be a start ... im sure the costs could still stay down and the bank balance be $1.3 mill... that's still quite a bit of money

I think interest earned on the savings were about $50,000. Compare that to the fees collected of $350,000 and without the money in the bank you'd have fees going up over 10% to be self sustaining year on year.

Was also only $13,000 in bad debts, not $30,000

How did the money in the bank compare to last years?

How much profit did SAASL make last year?

Your figures would also require the entire $1.5 Mill to be spent.

Yes they are doing great, but what about the future, these guys are not getting younger. Pherhaps (and I don't mean this in a bad way), they should invest in a future plan or succession plan. I can't see any benefit in having lots of money in the bank if there is no succession. Seen this before, lots of credit because most people look at the bottom line, in reality it is about continuation of the league and a healthy bank account although it gets credit from me, is not the be all end all, in fact sometimes can blind side people of the real issues (no succession) and all of a sudden, no more Amateur league as we know it. Hope that makes sense. :D

My only comparison might be superannuation....should you take it all in a lump sum, buy all the things you ever wanted and have nothing left to provide a regular income and pay utilities ?
....or....
Leave the lump sum in the bank and draw out enough to survive on each year for many years ?

I'm still sitting here baffled as to why a non profit organization are hoarding so much money?
"so fees don't go up " why would fees need to go up they have $1.5mil??? give something back to the clubs that have supported them all these years. They could spend some money and make a loss -its a football league its not coming out of anyone's personal pocket.
"better run business then the FFSA"- last time I checked this is a football league not a business, and at least the ffsa re invest in the game (shores , elite sports centre ) have proper trained/ qualified refs for all age groups - have a general all round better/ professional set up and its about the quality of soccer and not about how much money is in the bank.

So there 10 year plan is to keep hoarding money + keep fees down + not re invest anything = more ref quitting , more teams playing fake players , more teams heading over to the ffsa

Prize money to division/cup winners, runners up etc.

website updates

incentives to get more/better officials

state team incentive

get womens and junior leagues up and running

1.5 mil could go a long way to increasing and expanding the saasl, meaning good ROI
