CHALLENGE CUP 2nd ROUND

Match of the Day
BOSA (1) ELIZABETH DOWNS (4)
AN undermanned Elizabeth Downs have booked a spot in the Challenge Cup quarter finals with a comprehensive 4-1 win over BOSA at Charles Cane Reserve.
Both teams have a rich history in the Cup with the Downs having won four Challenge Cups including 2014 while BOSA remain the only Saturday league side to have won the title having claimed the 2005 title. More recently the Maroons defeated BOSA in the 2013 cup final 3-0.
Both teams had some of their more experienced players missing and it took only nine minutes for the visiting Downs to find the net.
A floated Tommy Blackett free kick from out wide went into the box and eluded everyone before rolling into the far corner.
The Downs looked more dangerous in attack and a Stephen Hughes header from a Matt Wise cross was well beaten away by the BOSA keeper.
BOSA had large periods of possession but lacked a cutting edge up front and on 42 minutes they appeared to be in on goal only to be denied by a last gasp Damien Dalglish tackle which cleared the danger.
Blackett almost scored his 2nd goal on the hour when he hit the post but three minutes later the Maroons doubled their lead when a Konrad Kusznik 25 yard freekick found the top right corner of the net.
The visitors were now attacking in numbers and when a long ball found target man Ben McMullen on 67 minutes he played a killer ball into Braiden Gundlach who bundled the ball over the line to make it 3-0.
It became a rout on 77 minutes when Gundlach picked out Calum Whysall who finished coolly from an acute angle.
BOSA grabbed a consolation on 83 minutes when substitute Ray Hobdey took his chance clinically but it was too little too late as the Maroons cruised to victory.
Downs coach Alan Mottram “Both sides were understrength but I thought our boys really stepped up. We are delighted with the result”.

ELIZABETH VALE (6) SALISBURY FLORINA (0)
ELIZABETH Vale’s Challenge Cup hopes remain alive after comprehensive a 6-0 win over nine man Salisbury Florina at Mofflin Road.
The Vale have been a surprise packet in the Sunday Premier league but they faced tough opposition in Florina who are in a promotion battle in division two.
The game started in dramatic fashion when Oathman Fazilahmed cut into the box before being taken down and a penalty awarded but James Greaves penalty kick was well saved by Florina skipper Jamie Hart.
Florina’s Evan Karanikos let rip with a fine effort from distance which was parried away by Vale keeper Andy Kokot before falling to Trevor Hall who then fired just wide from close range.
Vale veterans Tim Crawford and Daniel Nicholls combined on 15 minutes when a Crawford freekick found Nicholls at the back post but Nicholls header was beaten wide by Hart.
Florina were down to ten men on 26 minutes for a 2nd yellow card and two minutes later the Vale looked certain to score when Mark Burbridge rounded a defender before paying in Fazilahmed who had an open goal but his shot hit the bar from five yards out.
Florina’s hopes were all but snuffed out on 32 minutes when Beau Singlewood was issued a 2nd yellow card leaving the visitors with nine men for the last hour.
Burbridge was unlucky on 39 minutes when he chested the ball down before turning and striking his shot against the post.
In stoppage time of the first half the Vale finally gained the lead when a through ball found Burbridge who coolly rounded the keeper before scoring the goal.
The home side killed the game off two minutes into the 2nd half when Fazilahmed played in Matt Francis who slotted the goal and moments later Burbridge played in substitute Steve Orange who scored with his first touch of the game.
The Vale then cruised home with three more 2nd half goals rounding out a complete performance with a 6-0 score line.

MODBURY VISTA (1) INGLE FARM (3)
INGLE Farm has kept its League and Cup double dream alive with a 3-1 win over Modbury Vista at Richardson Drive.
2014 Challenge Cup Runners Up Ingle Farm faced a Vista team who were looking for another Premier division scalp having defeated Para Hills West in round 2.
Vista opened the scoring on 20 minutes when they headed home at the back post to the delight of the home fans.
The 2015 Farm outfit is made of stern stuff and they equalized on 32 minutes when Musti Ipekdal powered through the Vista defence before firing home.
After the break the League leaders started to assert their influence over the game and on 65 minutes took the lead through a Liam Mulvaney wonder goal when he volleyed home from 30 yards out.
The result was sealed on 82 minutes when Mulvaney turned provider with a ball cut back to Ipekdal who slotted his chance.
Farm coach Paul Simpson “We are happy to come away with the win against a team who have been in good form”.

BRAHMA LODGE (0) ADELAIDE VILLA (4)
TWO goals in each half has seen Adelaide Villa defeat the fancied Brahma Lodge 4-0 at Cockburn Green.
Brahma came into the game in fine form having won all 12 of their Sunday Division Two league fixtures while Villa are fighting for the title in the Saturday Premier division.
Villa got off to the perfect start with a goal on 10 minutes when Emlyn Hughes turned his defender before finishing in style.
Brahma pushed hard for an equalizer with Robbie McDonald striking the post but on 40 minutes against the run of play they went 2-0 down when Lukasz Krawczynski followed a long ball into the box and when it was fumbled by Brahma’s keeper he pounced to slot the ball home.
The result was sealed on 70 minutes when Lee Robinson fired in a low and hard freekick from 20 yards to make it 3-0.
Hughes scored his 2nd goal on 82 minutes to round out a great day for the visitors.
Committee Member Tony Vello “We were missing a few players today so we are really pleased to have got such a good result against good opposition”.
Brahma coach Ryan Mogg “I didn’t think we played well today and they did so credit to them.”

STURT MARION (2) ELIZABETH GROVE (1)
SATURDAY Premier division outfit Sturt Marion have proved too strong for Elizabeth Grove in their Challenge Cup 3rd Round clash at the Marion Sports Complex.
Both teams are enjoying good league campaigns with Sturt sitting 2nd in the league while the promoted Peckers sit 4th on the Sunday Premier table.
The Peckers opened well striking the cross bar early but Sturt started to control the game and took a lead to the half time break.
Sturt Marion doubled their lead on 55 minutes before the Peckers struck back on 75 minutes when a Kahmen Grieg cross was headed down by Gerard Guy Ambassa before being fired home by Ben Debono.
The home side held on to deservedly move into the last eight.
Grove coach Shane Golder “In all honesty we weren’t great today and full credit to Sturt, they deserved their win”.

IN OTHER GAMES
TEN time Challenge Cup winners Salisbury Inter moved into the last eight with a hard fought 2-1 win over Adelaide Uni.
Parafield Gardens hopes of an 8th Challenge Cup title are still alive after a 4-1 win over Adelaide Red Blue Eagles while Old Ignatians rounded out the results with a thumping 6-1 win over Monarchs
