Sturt Sevens - 18th October

Post by thunderweekly »

Hi All,

As some of you may be aware, Sturt Marion had organised a one-day, seven a side event back in February. The event was planned with 10 teams set to compete. Unfortunately the event had to be postponed due to the forecast temperature being above the SAASL heat policy of 34 degrees. We knew at the time, that we would be battling the heat, pre-season games etc. and as such - have re-organised to host the event on Sunday 18th October.

We realise that at this time, most people's minds are on league titles, cups etc. as are ours, but we thought we'd put the word out early and let people discuss the idea of playing over the next couple of months.

The day will be laid out exactly as was planned before, with entry fee's reduced to $250 and 100% of all money raised in entry fees, reinvested back into prize money. The planned $5,000 total would reflect 20 entries, which is what we are aiming for. Less entries will obviously mean that the prize money is scaled back.

The day will again feature a BBQ, Bar, live music, promotional material from our sponsors, video recordings of the games and more. Any enquiries about the day can be forwarded onto the email address sturtsevens@gmail.com or posted here.

Nominations will close 2 weeks before, with a decision to be made on that day, whether or not the competition will go ahead (based on the number of entries). I personally will make every effort to make the day as enjoyable for all, and can run it with anywhere between 8 and 20 teams (we can cater for more if entries are strong).

We're aiming to bring something different to the table, and welcome any feedback that anyone might have. The new SAASL insurance policy includes public liability insurance, and any player who registered with a SAASL affiliated club this year, will be covered by insurance. If players from other leagues wish to participate, contact the email address and we can discuss options.

All the best to teams fighting for titles, promotions/relegations and to those remaining in the cup.

Cheers.

Hi All,

Congrats to the teams that made it through last weekends cup round. It was certainly nice to see both of ours get through. Some cracking fixtures will no doubt be seen in the next round.

Just a friendly reminder we're now taking nominations for the Sturt Sevens competition that had to be postponed earlier this year. It's set down for October 18th and nominations close two weeks before. SAASL have kindly added the flyer to their homepage and the contact email (sturtsevens@gmail.com) can be reached by clicking the photo. If anyone has any questions about the day, feel free to get in touch. Nomination forms will be emailed out to anyone who makes contact and displays interest.

Cheers and all the best to everyone for Round 13.

Hi Everyone,

Still accepting nominations for the event. Just to clarify after a few enquiries, the tournament is a one-day event open to Senior Men only. Down the track we may look at expanding it if the interest is there, but unfortunately we will not be accepting any junior or women's nominations.

Nomination forms will be emailed to anyone who expresses interest via the competition email address below. Nominations close on October 4th which allows two weeks to finalise payment, draws etc.

We realise this is a new idea and that not everyone can/will want to participate, however we hope that people are open to the concept and get behind it.

A flyer can be found on the SAASL website, click the flyer to contact us, or email sturtsevens@gmail.com

All the best to teams still in the running for leagues/cups, and congratulations to those teams that have already secured a title.

Looking forward to a cup double-header this weekend at home.

Reserves Cup, Sturt Marion v Brahma Lodge - 12:30pm
Challenge Cup, Sturt Marion v Old Ignations - 2:30pm

Club Marion Sports Complex, 262 Sturt Road.

Cheers

Hey Everyone,

Just over 3 weeks until nominations close for the event. We still need a few more entries to make a day of it. Thanks to all those who have nominated so far.

Looking to put on a really good event, hopefully the few nominations needed to run come in.

All enquiries to sturtsevens@gmail.com

Cheers.

Hey Gristy,

7 at the moment. Were looking for at least 10. Can make it work with smaller numbers but it wouldn't be as enjoyable for all. Will keep you posted over the coming week and a bit.

Hi All,

The event is definitely going ahead (subject to weather!). We have 7 teams registered at the moment and are putting in one ourselves to make it 8. Would love to get to 10 if a couple of teams out there are interested in fielding a side.

Nomination forms can be emailed to you if you contact us at sturtsevens@gmail.com

Here's hoping we don't get another 40 degree day! Cheers

We've put one team in at the moment so we have even numbers. We've had a few more nominations come in so we look like having 10 teams now. If we end up with odd numbers again we'll field a second team.

Just makes it easier to do a draw.

Hi All,

The first ever Sturt Sevens competition is being held tomorrow at West Barratt Reserve (corner of West Beach Rd and Military Rd). The all day event, kindly sponsored by Pipemakers, will run from 8:30am until 6:15pm. We have 16 teams competing for nearly $4,000 in prize money. There will be a BBQ and Bar running all day, music, a crossbar challenge and giveaways from our sponsors including Goodlife Health Clubs. Should be a cracker of a day, and anyone who wants to come down for a look is more than welcome. 160+ players from all over Adelaide should make for some good competition.

Cheers

Thanks to all those that took part yesterday.

We had a great turnout with 16 teams competing on what was a perfect day.

The end results were;

1st Place - Ghan Red
2nd Place - Spurs
3rd/4th Place - Backdoor Bandits/Beercelona

Ghan Red won a very tight final 2-1.

MVP - Jake (Thunderstruck)
Golden Boot - Jack, Jake (Spurs)

The event was well received and will definitely be returning in the not to distant future.

Cheers to Gristy for the kind words too mate.

James
