Old Photos - Help With Names

Post by swannsong »

Peter Gray uploaded some photos onto the 'unofficial SAASL Facebook group page.
Just need some help fully naming (or correcting names including first name) for a few faces, when it might have been and what the occasion might have been.
I think it is from around 1991-92 and the teams are Elizabeth Vale and Salisbury East (Madison Park) and was at the Paddocks...

Hi all, Brian Groom here,

Peter Gray asked me yesterday for help via Facebook, but in the meantime :

Martin Knott, Bobby Hayes, ----, ----,----- Fuller?, Peter Gray, Steve Straker, Chris Golder, Dave Brandon, Dougie Locke, Theo Symons ??, Harry McDonald, Jimmy Wright

Mick Burfoot, Phil Dunderdale, Lee Underwood, Bobby Thiele, Rob McInarlin, John Hunt, Peter McKenzie, Me, Phil Keynes, Steve Claridge

The N in N Matthews of the Vale was Norm, known as "Mac".

I think the year was a lot earlier, say '83 or '84, judging from my waistline......

Boy the Nicholls brothers were good players , they didn't look very fit most of the time but boy they could play. Very smart, skilful and sharp over small distances. You would want to take them easy in a game because you would regret it. I assume they are not playing now but they did play a long time.

Added names...Brian, I think it is about 1991-92 because of the Vales strip and comparison with the 1991team photo from the SAASL Yearbook...

Image

The Nicholls boys scored 69 Division 11 league goals between them in 1991 ( R.Nicholls 23 & D. Nicholls 46 ) they were also Division 11 B&F winner and runner up respectively.

I didn't see them play in 91 but you could see even when they got older they were class and new what they were doing. I wouldn't have like to be against them in 91 boy they would have been good to watch. They worked so well together as well it was if they new exactly what each was thinking before things happened.

Cheers all editing names in as we go...first names for K. Prunty, D. Roadley, S.Talbot and C.Norton ???
Plus 1 missing name for Vale and 2 missing names for Salisbury East.
Also....think this might have been a benefit or charity game....any one possibly remember the occasion.

Cheers, just a few more to get the guy in the Salisbury East-Madison Park side between Neil Davidson - Ron Fuller in the back row.
For the Vale side need to confirm Theo Symons, D. Roadley (first name) and C. Norton (first name).
And whether anyone can recall the occasion...any special reason ?

Salisbury Easts 1991 Reserve side..
Andy Graham is bottom left. Didn't he used to play at the Downs when you played Swanny?
Dixie Dean was hailed by another Mersey legend, Liverpool’s Bill Shankly, as “belonging in the company of the supremely great, like Beethoven, Rembrandt and Shakespeare.”

60 goals, never to be equalled.
