great idea, great prize money but feb 22? Fed season already started and Sunday amateur preseason tournaments underway, good luck getting the 17/18 teams to recoup the prizemoney

Hey Everyone,

Just a bit more info with regards to the comp. All enquiries should be forwarded to the email address sturtsevens@gmail.com - we're hoping that this day will be a real show and we've got lots planned for it. We understand that there may already be pre-season competitions and pre-season games that clubs are playing in which is understandable but we had to choose the date due to field availability with cricket seasons and all sorts of other stuff in play.

Please note that you don't necessarily have to play with people from your own club. The competition is open to any SAASL player that played in any division Saturday or Sunday, last year.

Cheers.

With the majority of pre-season trainings starting soon, don't forget to get a team together for what will be an awesome day. We're looking forward to putting up a heap of prize money and hope the majority of you can attend.

Thanks Guys!

So only for people registered last season? How do you expect to enforce/prove that they were registered last season? What about coaches who might want to have a kick that weren't registered last season?

I would have thought a better way to get the most teams possible is to have it open to anyone over 16 or something. I would say that excluding a big market of potential players and games and tournament already in progress you will see a minimal turnout and will probably lose money on the endeavour.

Just my thoughts

Hey Cooper,

The main reason behind the "open to all SAASL registered" comment was purely for insurance reasons. Having spoken to the league, we were told that a player is insured for a period of 12 months from their registration date. I.e - if someone signed on with a club on March 1 last year, they would be covered to play in this tournament. Alternatively, if someone registers before Feb 22nd they will be covered too. Maybe someone can confirm this? Or has been told something different?

I understand your comments and it's going to be near impossible to ask for ID cards or to prove if someone is registered. We do ask on the nomination forms for the last club played at to try and compile a fair a draw as possible (i.e - not putting sat/sun div 1 clubs all in the same group).

We're well aware that the federation league may have started and that some teams may already have pre-season games lined up. We're trying to be as flexible as we can with people playing - I just would hate to see a scenario eventuate where we have someone hurt or injured and uninsured.

We're still open to suggestions and our aim is that the competition will grow year after year. As far as the timing and dates go, with cricket seasons still underway and a lack of fields/dates - we literally went with the only viable option.

I hope this explains things a little better, but again - we appreciate any input. Thanks
