SAASL SUNDAY PREMIER DIVISION - LEAGUE ROUND 17 - August 31, 2014

Southern Knights ( 1 ) Elizabeth Vale ( 1 )
Tim Crawford T.O.G................ Daniel Nicholls

Southern Knights - Stephen Maguire (GK), Chris Bradley, Aaron O'Toole, Shaun Papworth, Jamie Jordan Ruch, Ryan Curran, Ben Jones, Ryan McGuinness,
Ross McNab, Robert Marsden, Tom Foglia, ....(Subs) Matthew Harrison, Iain Stewart, Justin Moule, Lee White, Daniel McGuire (RGK).

A tough game for Southern Knights who needed a win to secure SAASL Sunday Premier Division status for the 2015 season...a win for Elizabeth Vale would have
put them above Knights on goal difference going into the final Round of League fixtures.
Knights started well looking to attack but the scenario soon changed after an obvious handball on the goal line left them with only 10 men, a penalty to face and still 80 minutes more to play.
Fortunately Stephen Maguire was able to keep out the penalty with a superb save, but it took quite a while for Knights to adjust to being a player short.
Young Jordan Ruch stepped up with probably his best performance for Knights this year and Shaun Papworth played well behind the defense.
Both teams had chances but Vale looked most dangerous on corners and set plays when they pushed more players forward.
The two sides went to the break without scoring setting up a tense and nervous second half.
Stephen Maguire pulled off a few more good saves but Vale managed to sneak ahead late in the second half with a well placed header from Daniel Nicholls at the back post.
Minutes later a long clearance from Stephen Maguire was unfortunately deflected over the Vale keeper by Tim Crawford to once again level the game at 1-1.
A few more close chances were there for Knights to go ahead but they lacked the final touch whilst the Vale had some good chances of their own to go ahead.
However, a gutsy save by Stephen Maguire in the closing stages ensured that Knights 10 men held on to a share of the points.
Survival now comes down to the last Round for Knights and the Vale...both sides needing a draw (or win) to ensure survival depending on how Modbury Vista and
Para Hills West fare in their respective last games.

Great photos Swanny for the record "Aussie" scored the 2 goals for the reserves - he's the guy about 4 photos in wearing the Vale track suit next to the corner flag- he was quality, surprised he was on their bench to begin with

Thought the A's referee (Steve) had a great game - despite sending a player off - the reserves referee not so much
Are you Bodo in disguise?

Agree...surprised the lad never got a run from the bench in the As, looked like he had the skills, pace and a natural attacking ability.
