catch up games

Post by Ali Dia »

anybody playing catch up games this week?

do all games have to be played before the final round? if so, what happens if a game isn't played? ie - forfeit to the home team? or, SAASL don't worry about the game and the league finishes as it stands?

League has sent out letters to clubs that have catch up games, they have to be played weekend after the season. Our ressies have a catch up game against San Marco.
I will find out tomorrow if they are going to play the game or not.

San Marco have forfeited. Were advised by the SAASL last night. Still leaves a big game this week vs Munno Para for the lads

Someone made the comment last season about all catchup games should be played before the last round, and I agree.

If you are in with a chance of winning the league or avoiding relegation with the last game of the round, nothing better than celebrating it straight after the game with all the players, committee, and supporters.
But to play your last game and then have to wait for outcome of midweek catch up games, kind off loses some of the celebratory appeal, in my opinion.

I would think league draws a line in the sand with a date where they both have to play and if one team says no then it is a forfeit

Both teams could suggest a date that the other disagrees with, how do you decide which team has said no?

Good question. Maybe the league would give teams a must be played by date after the season. I am guessing if it is 2 Sunday league teams and someone suggests a Sunday then both parties should be able to accommodate. But there are always situations that will arise. Eventually the league would have to say you play on this date or forfeit.

I agree that games should be played before the final round.

If both teams cant agree on a time and no one backs out then neither team should get the points, its the only fair way.

Given the timing of Cup semi finals and final, what do you propose should happen if one of the teams is involved?

So if you're sitting second and your postponed game is against the team sitting third and just a point behind you - you just make sure you can never agree on a time and your promotion is confirmed?

So you're saying you don't have to play the games before the end of the season. OK.

That is a good point but I don't see a fairer way of doing it if an agreement cant be made.

As per your point, a team could have 2 games to play or have a side in the cup still.

Really don't see the big deal of having all games end before the end of the season, we're just amateurs.

The final decision should rest with the home team.

Home suggests a time, if away declines they suggest another. If Home declines, offer a final time. If no agreement, away forfeits.

In that case, I suggest our game should be played at 2am in Cooper Pedy.

If the games are called of because of the weather ( eg pitch is flooded ) maybe teams can look at playing the game at the oppositions ground if theirs is playable ?
If this does happen, the team whose pitch was not playable still pay the Ref / assist Ref fees, and home team has benefit of canteen/ bar takings for making the pitch available, and line marking, setting up nets etc.
Another option, if a game is postponed why not make a rule that it has to be played within 14 days ( mid week )wherever there is a venue available ( within reason ).

So, you'd be happy to forfeit then.

We're the home side, away forfeits was final line.

Well not specifically that game, just highlighting an issue with the suggestion.

I'm sure the SAASL would have issues with it, given we are a Saturday league.

I'll amend to "a reasonable time"

BOSA vs. Uni at Grange, 3pm Sat.

Title decider, more or less.

Uni need one point from their 2 catch-up games (BOSA and Jets) to win title. A draw or win on Sat will give them the title (only other one was in 2000).
BOSA need to win tomorrow and hope Jets beat Uni (next weekend?)
Because everyone needs one.
