West Beach ( 4 ) Southern Knights ( 3 ) ...with pics

SAASL SUNDAY PREMIER DIVISION - LEAGUE ROUND 16 - August 24, 2014

West Beach ( 4 ) Southern Knights ( 3 )
Colin O'Brien 4............. Tom Foglia 2
................................. Ben Jones

Southern Knights - Stephen Maguire (GK), Chris Bradley, Aaron O'Toole, Shaun Papworth, Jamie Faulkner, Ryan Curran, Ben Jones, Ryan McGuinness,
Ross McNab, Robert Marsden, Tom Foglia, ....(Subs) Jordan Ruch, Matthew Harrison, Iain Stewart, Justin Moule, Daniel McGuire (RGK).

A physical but entertaining game at Lockleys where the lead changed 3 times with West Beach running out eventual winners.
The home side opened the scoring after only a few minutes when Knights struggled to clear and eventually were adjudged to have handled on the goal line.
Beach's Colin O'Brien tucked away the spot kick giving them an early lead but as the half progressed Knights looked to be getting on top.
Knights worked hard and eventually Tom Foglia pulled a goal back for the visitors and then Ben Jones calmly slotted away a second to give Knights a 1-2 lead.
Control of the game swung several times and eventually West Beach levelled the game again with a long distance strike from O'Brien.
Knights survived a series of threatening corners from Beach and the teams went to the break at 2-2.
After the half time interval both teams attacked well but it was West Beach who hit the front when Colin O'Brien rose to head home his and Beach's third for the game.
It took a piece of brilliance from Tom Foglia to wrong foot several West Beach defenders and slot home an equaliser for Knights to make the game 3-3.
Both teams had their opportunities to further the score but when Colin O'Brien was brought down inside the penalty he secured the lead 4-3 from the spot with his 4th. goal of the encounter.
Knights still pushed hard and looked like they had a chance of grabbing at least a point from the game.
A second bookable offence lead to a little unease on Northern side of the ground ( with seemingly no 'vested' West Beach marshalls available) and left Knights with just 10 men.....
But before the game could restart the referee signalled the end of the game with several minutes remaining plus extra time to play.... :o :?

Where did Colin O'Brien come from and how long has he been at West Beach ?
Looks like a very handy and useful player, most of the Knights players were quite impressed by his skill level and strength.

good work swanny some good pics.
colin has played majority of the year starting in the c's believe it or not.

slightly disapointed with some comments made in your intro about the vested people as it was southern knights fans that entered the field of play twice. there would have been roughly 30 seconds of play left as the ref had told me that there was less than two minutes of injury time left when colin was sent into the corner to hold up play, that then led to the last tackle of the game(should have been a red not his second yellow). half time lasted about 5 minutes so the second half started early. number 11 for knights should have been sent off twice, hand ball on the line followed by two tackles on the outside of the box(once being booked) and the last tackle

I timed the second half and was 41 minutes on my phone hmmmmm Apple - doubt we would have scored

A few on the pitch from both teams but no punches thrown

The guy with the beard at the back should have been off at least twice, so we can both play that game, unless grabbing someone by the throat is all ok?

At the end of the day, you ground out 2 wins no argument

Were there any of your club officials in vests or not ?
The rest of your comments Knight15 has replied quite well....was a good physical contest, congrats on the win(s) and for avoiding the drop.
Beach should be able to relax for the last two league games.

There was a yellow vest from west beach but he didn't know how to stop the 7 or 8 knights spectators on the pitch. Why should the guy with the beard have "at least" 2 red cards? He did not concede a foul.

Sorry, my bad, I couldn't find a vested WB official in any of my photos and thought that there were meant to be 3 as listed on the team sheets.
PS - Are you sure you never conceded a foul ?
