50 Years of SAASL

To celebrate 50 years of SAASL, I have been asked to try and collate as much historic material as possible and make it available to all clubs.
If anyone has any obscure old team photos or football action photos....post them in here or contact me via PM and I can scan them for you (high quality) and can also digitally touch up and repair damaged photos...

A photo of one of Munno Para APAC's League Winning sides....I think this is 1971...the year before they
joined the Federation Division 3.

I think these are some of the names...anyone know any others (or corrections)...

I think the keeper is Barry Wright, he was my boss at a previous job and I think I have seen this photo before.

Yes...SAASL heads up the Sunday Amateurs and the Saturday Amateurs. hence, why both Saturday & Sunday teams compete for the SAASL Cups

thanks swanny i never gave saturday amatuers a thought all these years. i thought it was just a collegiate league. played feds and sunday amatuers,coached feds and sunday amatuers and saturday amatuers just passed me by. thanks for the info and have a good season.

I remember watching this team play out at Peachey Road and would draw quite a crowd also. I think Harry Stokes was their striker and he toppped the league goal scoring ladder. I think he also did some boxing in his younger years and won some state titles and could have represented Australia also?

Bobby Anderson the manager was also known for running a number of bingo halls out elizabeth way.

Dave Hartley topped the Division 1 scoring in 1971 with 32 goals....Harry Stokes was the Division 1 leading goalscorer in 1969 (don't know how many goals) and 1970 with 21 goals.
The big Elizabeth Fields-West area clashes back then were often Elizabeth Thistle v Munno Para Apac....there was also a Munno Para Celtic for a while..

50 years and chickenowski and co are putting the leagues credibility on the line with their weakness towards certain clubs and turning a blind eye to what they do. ie fighting,playing the race card and blatant match fixing ie last match of the season div 4. result was allowed to stand. i contend that if seaford,a pommy club had tried something like we would have been hung drawn and quartered. the greeks and italians would have been severely censured but the new kids on the block seem to have the league by the bollix. all iam asking is that the league return to running a fair comp and the laws to apply equaly to ALL clubs again.

That was my first thought, but this year is the 50th 'season' of the Industrial League-SAASL, albeit only a few games into the season.

Some photos from Bill Ashton...original Apac and Amateur league player..emailed to me (and enhanced-edited up by me)
Anybody have any more, either email me or, given access, I can scan the material for you.
Love this stuff...

Probably 1970 as I recognise the two lads in the front row (left) John Zybeck and Peter Zybeck...both played for Elizabeth Downs in 1971.

Inthe APAC picture . Billy Wright is actually Billy Graham. suggest the photo may be 66 and not 64 .

I've just aded the names Bill Ashton gave me...I think Billy Graham is correct too...do you know if it was Eddie Allen or Ernie Allen
he is in the first GMH team that won the league in 1965.
Was Bobby Anderson playing in 1966 you might be right about the date as E.Allen is listed with APAC in the 1966 State side?
