Sometimes posting these "reports" isn't much fun or inspiring....this is one of those times !
In 2011 Southern Knights travelled to the scene of one of their biggest maulings when they lost 9-1 to Salisbury Inter.
This time they suffered a similar fate at the hands of Inter's Underdown neighbours Salisbury Florina.
Knights were quite buoyant after their Cup victory last week but the optimism drained as their list of unavailable players grew just prior to kick off.
Knights started without Jim Stewart, Paul Martin, Stuart Blyth and Tom Salvemini forcing coach Ben Smith to once again put together yet another defensive set up.
New signing Robert Marsden along with Andrew Alvino (returning from injury) were brought in whilst Ben Smith and Matt Harrison started despite niggling injuries.
Florina went a goal ahead in the opening minutes due to a defensive miscalculation and not too long later found themselves leading 2-0 with a relatively soft goal.
By half time Florina had established a 3-0 lead with a well struck drive from outside the box.
Knights did create chances of their own but Jamie Hart marshalled his defence with authority aided by the experience of Seamus Marron and Luke Singlewood.
Both Ben Smith and Matt Harrison succumbed to their respective injuries and despite the introduction of Scott Bradley, Paul Thompson and Anthony Micheal....
Knights were unable to halt a repeat dose from Florina in the second half and the game wound up a 6-0 drubbing.
*Southern Knights have yet to register a point in 2012 ( and sitting below suspended Bosna on goal difference
) but are still only 2 wins away from moving half way up the league.Hopefully Knights can refresh, regroup and recapture some of the fighting spirit that has seen them hold their place in Division 2 for so many seasons.
