EVSC Tackles Cancer

Post by EVSC1961 »

Following a highly successful National Breast Cancer Foundation charity day at the Elizabeth Downs versus Elizabeth Vale games on the 25th July, 2010 which was instigated and organized by the Elizabeth Downs Soccer Club it was agreed, in principle, between the two clubs to hold an annual charity day to be hosted by each club in turn.

This years’ charity day, ‘EVSC Tackles Cancer’, will be held at the Elizabeth Vale versus Elizabeth Downs games at Mofflin Road, Elizabeth Vale on the 3rd July, 2011 and will be in aid of the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.

As 2011 is also the Elizabeth Vale Soccer Clubs 50th year, the Elizabeth Vale A Team will be playing in a replica of its original strip of double blue and the shirts will be auctioned after the game, along with other items and sporting memorabilia, to raise funds for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.

There will also be entertainment on the day including a DJ and live music after the games and food and drink will be available throughout the day and evening.

Great opportunity for ALL SAASL clubs to join in with fund-raising, maybe organize a game and a few fund-raising activities before July and help make a difference. Downs will not wear pink this year but have agreed to wear "William Wallace" style blue war paint to mark the occasion.

Agree. It would be good to see some more clubs following the lead on this one and approaching other clubs for a similar thing. Could even get a shield or a cup and if the two teams end up being separated (by promotions/relegations) they could schedule it for a preseason hit out.
Imagine if in the not too distant future there was an annual "Fundraiser round" with all clubs getting behind a cause in that particular round.

We have also received two individual donations of $500 each to purchase the Elizabeth Vale first team strip which will be worn on the day and auctioned after the game. These individuals wish to remain anonymous.

Many thanks to Earl Pudler owner of ESJ Roller Shutters for his generous donation of $500. It is great to see local businesses supporting the day and getting behind this worthwhile cause.

Any other sporting clubs, organizations, businesses and individuals wishing to donate can send a cheque, made payable to the 'Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia', to the Elizabeth Vale Soccer Club, PO Box 132, Elizabeth, SA 5112.

All donations and proceeds from the day will be forwarded to the PCFA with official receipts being issued for all donations over $2 which are tax deductable.

EVSC would like to thank the Elizabeth Downs Soccer Club and the Parafield Gardens Soccer Club for their donations of $125 each being as a result of a tie in the half time penalty shoot out / fund raiser at last weeks Gardens v Downs game.

Great to see other SAASL clubs getting involved in fund raising for this worthy cause.

I spoke to the Mayor of Playford on Sunday- and mentioned the big game to him- he put it straight into his diary and said he would try to get in otuch with someone from the club. Not sure if you have contacted the council about it but it certainly help us get some press soverage in the Messenger and Radio last year. If you havnt rang them maybe give them a call to arrange a meeting.

Keep up the great work!

EVSC1961, I have taken the liberty of collating your posts and forwarded them to every SA politician, the Advertiser, Messenger Press, and a number of radio stations plus quite a number of long-time football supporters.

I hope this is OK with you.

That is excellent! Thank you every body. :)

We will be speaking with the Council in regards to this event shortly.

We have been focussing on sponsorship for the last 4 weeks to ensure that we have enough donations for raffles, auctions, prizes etc.

The next 4 weeks we will be concentrating more on the media as well as monetary donations. I really do appreciate everyones help though, it is so good to work together for a great cause!

It was suggested over a beer with the vale O/35s that if you made the game a Friday under lights next door, that some of the other sunday premier teams could come and watch you could charge a gold coin donation to get into the ground.

Get on to the council sooner or later, had a chat to someone at work today and they said to get on to it as soon as you can. They can sort you out in regards regards to sponsorship, promotion on the community radio channel, etc but this will need to be discussed as soon as you can as the wheels turn reasonably slow at work and four weeks is not long in local govt time. Will pm the details to you....which I trust will be kept under your strictest confidence..Cheers

Thank you every one for your support! The Friday night game is a great idea but unfortunately we do not have sufficient lighting for this to be possible at this time. :( Maybe next time we will be able to organise this!

But on a brighter note we just hit $3000 in donations thanks to a $250.00 donation from the South Australian Amateur Soccer Referee Association :)

Yay!
