Re: Minimum Goal Keeper height in FFA

Personally, GK is a position that puts a huge emphasis on physical assets. Our elite training programs are there to produce "professional footballers". So if they're taking in 2 GKs per age group, they're going to aim for the best two that meet the criteria of professional GKs - which is most cases ...

Re: What's a GOOD junior coach worth?

i think most good junior coaches aren't too worried about the money. i think most clubs should look at helping their Good coaches upskill themselves with financial support doing their licenses etc. Good point, and I agree! But have you seen the expense now of upgrading license and the time it takes...

Re: Has the standard of U18's gone backwards

What about a similar scenario for the player that stays with the club, does the hard yards and shows commitment & passion for the club. Shouldn't he/she be given opportunities? Regardless that he is being age discriminated at 17-18? haha. he was only gone for 12 rounds ;) Given we lack huge ...

Re: Has the standard of U18's gone backwards

..... 1 player has moved back from Gawler, and he was never passed on. He was actually selected in my reserve team at the start of the season. He decided to make the move following some bad advice and the lure of senior football. He's 16, has spent 6 years at the club, and has 4 senior games under ...

Re: Has the standard of U18's gone backwards

Matty, I would be surprised if you have any 14 year olds in your U18 squad .. if so you shoulder check their birth certificates .. Anyway no real issue with this if the player is exceptional but should be an exception to the rule. IMO top tier U15's is generally still a good level for this age grou...

Re: Has the standard of U18's gone backwards

Thats not what ive suggested at all. So the U18's players should be 15-16 years old? Why not call the league U17's? Oh, because then clubs would be playing 16-17 year olds and that wouldn't be right. Yes, they should be 15-16 years old. And they should be the BEST 15-16 year olds at the club...

Re: Has the standard of U18's gone backwards

I just saw another 14 year old made his debut for the Norwegian national team.. yet im considered nuts for suggesting kids of that age should be playing U18s - small minded mentality will forever hold back how we do things in Australia. No. Your nuts for suggesting players aged between 17-18 should...

Re: Has the standard of U18's gone backwards

Maybe its harder to get into a premier league reserve grade side than it is a middle of the road state league 1st team . Re: Has the standard of U18's gone backwards

Then it should not be the U18's, it should be the U16's!! What is wrong with people? If you all had your way, in 10 years time we'd be watching 14 year olds play in the first stage of the senior football system. Ridiculous. I suggest some of you guys go read up on the football systems of great foot...

Re: Has the standard of U18's gone backwards

And tonight that team came up against a first team player who is the same age as them. He scored a hat trick, as Playford went on to win 5-0 (at 80th minute when i left). If Kids are playing u18s at 17-18 , unfortunately its almost too late for them. There will be exceptions, but not many. You'd th...

Re: Has the standard of U18's gone backwards

Depends upon what you are comparing it too ? U19's was better , however dropping to U18's and PPS has forced clubs to promote younger talent , possibly too early ! Reality is that Ressies. Is now an U19's with a few overage players. Teams are pushing players to Ressies too early , meaning the 1st t...

Re: 2016 JPL Division 1

Initially there may be a perception that the JPL is the better league to be in. Over time if clubs in the division 2 league (or what ever its called) improve their junior development programs then will this be an issue? Playford currently has under 12|13|14|15|16|17s all competing in the JPL A divi...

Re: Has the standard of U18's gone backwards

Heres a bold statement: The standard of the U18s has NEVER been good. Any decent 16/17 year old will have progressed into reserve football, with the top end already finding themselves in the first team. This leaves two types of under 18s teams: TEAM A: All the 17 year old kids who weren't good enoug...

What do you do when your opposition only has 9 players? Our opponent had 3 players pull out on the morning of the game leaving them with only 9 players. Half way through the game they lost another player to injury leaving them with only 8 players on the field. Do we have any flexibility to lend the...

Re: Club Trials

What do you look at for GK's Matt? Honestly Dan, i'd identified my GK before my under 12 trials and informed the group at the first trial that the GK position was taken. Considering its a specialist position, I think GKs are more "targeted". He has been with me for 2 seasons now. If i was to judge ...

In our first club at U13 level, we embraced the club, attended pre season working bees, all club functions, some senior games and really enjoyed the club atmosphere.
