Athelstone

Well done to Athelstone. Teams in the higher divisions should keep an eye on this team as they will walk Div 4 next year. THere are some good players there at the moment, for Athelstone's sake I hope they stay as this club will end up climbing back to where it belongs.

Marco2, you touch on several interesting points. From my brief experience in the game of football I noticed a good percentage of professional players are sons, nephews or grandchildren of professional coaches or players: this is a worldwide phenomenon, generally it involves better coaching in earli...

Higher Div Test

Fair points. I guess time wil tell. I do agree that they should make it to Div 3 at some point, this will be the test though. At this point players need definite structure and team rules, as opposed to just roll up on Sunday and win because you are better and fitter than them. This is where my quest...

Based on the assumption he stays at ASC for the next few years will be the real test. As the competition gets stronger it will be a test on whether he has the ability to coach (as opposed to train) at this level. As you guys are in Div 5, I think success has come primarily due to players, however th...

NJ - Good Trainer but can't COach

I think he is a great trainer, bur not a great coach. More specifically his training drills are very good and he has a great ability to get players fit. As for a coach though he lacks the ability to motivate and struggles in terms of tactics. Whenever he has had success it has been more to do with h...

Congrat

Well done Brahma good luck in Div 3. I think the best thing you did to get this hapening was to appoint a coach that wanted to go somewhere, unlike one of your previous ones who has no idea how to coach on match days - initials NJ

Selection Panel

Hey Corona I think your suggestion is a sensible one. A selection panel will make selction more objective and will also remove any intentional or even non-intentional bias from the coach. This will then allow them to concentrate on coaching. However, whilst I think it is a good idea I can't see it h...

I deleted

Yeah it was me. Posted a comment about the 14 east coaching appointment but then though better of it! In principle I was supporting previous posts that there is a risk of bias with this coach considering his son plays and his sons best mate! He also isn't a good coach - I've seen him in action!

As far as I'm aware ASC are the primary lease holder and allow NAB to use the ground therefore it is their own ground. In other words decisions made about the club, ground etc are ASC not NABs. I think the reason for this arrangement is historic and goes back to the days when ASC needed a cash injec...

does athelstone have their own ground yet? Yeh the leagues are treading on eggshells in suspense. Wot a joke Robbo, You may find it worthwhile doing a little background research before you ask questions such as "Does Athelstone have their own ground yet? as you've just embarrased yourself! ASC...

Go Athelstone

Athelstone are having a good year so far and will compete in Div 4 next year, so good luck to them. Nick has done well to recruit players as Div 5 isn't the most attractive division. Whether they stay or leave if and when Nick leaves still remains to be seen, but I guess for now ASC are looking at t...

B Team Ref

Athelstone 5 Central Ghan 0 (A) Athelstone 1 Central Ghan 2 (B) Ghan's ref was man of the match in the B's, a disgustingly poor showing of sportsmanship. We can now only hope our next game at their ground won't see the title decided by cheating. Manic, if their ref was that bad for the B team game ...
