Good to see SA youth players up and about at National level. Bernardo OLIVEIRA especially one to watch... future Socceroo? Pick the best coach. Dont worry about what "division" the team plays in. Your sons development will occur predominately through the information he is receiving during the week at training. Never pick the club, Never pick the division.. Always pick the coach. And if you don't know the coaches, ask a...

Re: Cup Round

How can you judge a clubs development program or the value for money of club fees by the appearance of teams/clubs in the Junior cup? Don’t get me wrong, I think most clubs overcharge for what they offer, and I can see what you’re trying to get at.. but using the above as a measuring stick is a bit...

Re: Relegation/Promotion

How do you grade a team that hasn't played before? The new system works so much better than the system which was in place a couple of years ago. Teams would have to play 21 games in which they were getting flogged. As naive as this may sound, is it worth asking the clubs? Clubs asked to submit wher...

In the last 8 years the Playford U/17 have made the cup final twice and lost both games, in 2015 two player from the u/18 played in the final after playing all the lead up game for the u/17 in the cup, and after playing with those boys from the u/13 to u/16, while the opposition had over 22 players...

4.2 Players are not permitted to participate in the Junior Cup Competition if they have participated in a Senior Cup Competition, being the Under 18s, Reserves or WFFA Cup. Goalkeepers are exempt from this rule and may participate in the Junior Cup Competition if age eligible Can anyone clarify, if...

Re: Movement of players in the Junior Cup

"Once the player has moved up to a higher age group they shall not be permitted to move back down to the lower age group." Is there any rules regarding players playing in the league season games for the U18's of their club on the Saturday, then dropping down to U16's JPL on the Sunday? I've heard r...

Re: Hot Weather policy

Maybe it's not that hard. Hypothetical: 15yo playing / training under 16s. Following week he's asked to train/play under 18. On this occasion, temp is 37 - but he is required to train for 18s. Suffers heatstroke etc - is this a legal issue, given that he's only junior aged. i.e. Does the club owe a...

Re: Hot Weather policy

Up to under 17s, (i.e. Junior comps), there are certain temperature thresholds. These are different for seniors. My question is this: If a 15 or 16 y.o. (I.e. Junior age) gets promoted to seniors etc, does the 'senior' temperature or junior rules apply to that player when playing 'up'? My understan...

Re: 2017 Trials - Junior Playing Fees

3 things should matter - who is the coach and the technical staff (technical directors etc)? what is the clubs development policy? how long has it been in place (track record)? If they're all ticked, then most parents would consider any price value for money. Probably the first time ive agreed with...

Re: 2017 Trials - Junior Playing Fees

Modbury SC fees in 2016 U12 to First team $680 Under 10 and 11 $460 Under 8 and 9 $410 Under 6 and 7 $350 I wouldn't think it will be much different in 2017  I think northern/southern clubs are always going to be cheaper than central based clubs. Especially given the socio-economics of the su...

Re: 30 man squad - what age level should this be implemented

Geoff is right. I've seen some kids really progress in JSL squads and should be playing JPL but the JPL Coach who has been selecting the same players year on year doesn't want to upset the parents. If kids are "really progressing" in their current environment, why move them? I know that might seem ...

Re: 30 man squad - what age level should this be implemented

IMO the difference I have seen in quality from JSL to JPL players is too great for a squad of 30 to be of any real advantage.. Great suggestion from Pie and Bovril, two separate squads with only two possible interchanges from JSL to JPL. At least it distinguishes the two teams so the issue of socia...

Re: 30 man squad - what age level should this be implemented

Hi all, Just wanted to canvas everyone's thoughts on what junior age group you think it is appropriate to introduce the 30 man squad system. The 30 man squad system is when there are 30 players for two teams and the coach can promote and relegate players up and down at will between the two teams. T...

Re: Cup round.....

Matty I think it's heart-wrenching the way you have put it. However, if you're referring to JPL games at under 14 and higher, the kid simply should be playing at a lower level where he will play most of the game , or play school soccer. For me its at any level of youth football. Why do coaches pick...

Re: Cup round.....

U12 to U13, U13 to U14, most teams wont change that much. But U14 to U15, and U15 to U16, you start getting large amounts of player movement, so grading systems based on the previous seasons results, can become inaccurate. A top end JPL team could lose 5-6 of its top end players to older age groups...

Re: Cup round.....

It is interesting the comment by Matty that from U14 there is more movement between clubs.....I guess this is where long term juniors do get pushed out of teams and lose their desire to play and possibly abandon the game - we see it in the number of teams fielded in U12s against that of U16s..... c...

Re: Cup round.....

Matty, the three U16 games for the cup were: 20:0, 8:0 and 14:2.....therefore 100% blowouts and there's a 10:0, 14:1, 8:2, 7:1, 6:0, 7:0 in the first three rounds of U16JPL A and 13:0, 7:0, 11:1, 5:0, 10:2, 6:0, 9:1 and 7:0 for U16JPLB and similar in U16JSL - I feel that your idea doesnt hold water...

Re: Cup round.....

I reckon that's a pretty good indication that JSL teams are not really holding their own against JPL teams and that perhaps the FFSA should look at the first round being JSL and JPL C teams. Really? A fair proportion of the blow-out (10+) scorelines are JSL-JSL or JPL-JPL games... In Under 12, only...

All valid points matty, but on the flip side regarding the AC player getting 5 minutes in that game. Football in general would be much stronger if it wasn't divided down the middle with the two associations. But unfortunately that's the landscape of football in this state. Same at the senior level, I really don't see how it would make any difference at all. I have a son who plays for a Federation ...

Matty - I reckon there is quite a bit of Junior depth in South Australia and it could make for a very exciting Cup. Re: Cup round.....

The FA Cup doesn't knock up 23-0 scorelines. Scorelines like that are a complete farce Theres no way to stop it. At age 13, Ronaldinho came to fame when his team won 23-0 and he scored all 23 goals. Simply put, younger players aren't exposed to tactical coaching (and nor should they), so difference...

Re: Cup round.....

Its the cup. Its hard to balance a cup when, for everything that is romantic about cup games, can also be a negative. Every "under-dog" JSL team dreams of knocking off a JPL team. And for every one that does, there is probably 10 that got beaten by 5+ goals. FA cup in England has pre-qualifying rou...
