Re: Is winning everything
With regard to winning, another way to look at this is: What kind of team do you want your child to play in? a. One that always wins b. One that always looses c. One that wins some, draws some, and loses some. I think the best is option c. but probably the most important part is that the child has a...

Re: Is winning everything
Sorry to ask a silly question A while a go i was listening to Saturday soccer show and they were speaking to Mark Bosnich he was asked the question is winning important. His answer was resounding yes as he explained that obviously not all will play the highest level but those who do must be underst...

Re: round 16 results
Mrs Brown, you seem to be up with the U/17 A comp. I noticed the FFSA results and table reflect that Adelaide City lost to Modbury 3-0? I know the game was a 1-1 draw? Is this a mistake or have FFSA awarded the game to Modbury for some reason? that's interesting.....haven't heard anything about the...

Re: Junior Cup Finals 26/8
I cannot find the thread about the disqualifications of the two under 17 teams from the cup final. Excuse my bad if it is still going. Does anyone know the final washup particularly at Metro?

Re: Advice please
You may already know, Tim Howard has Tourettes syndrome, and has overcome this disability.

Maybe you could use his example to parents and/or clubs as means of reducing their concerns.
good luck.

EPPP - The bar has been raised
The Elite Player Performance Plan for developing youth in the UK requires category 1 clubs to have a minimum of 18 full time staff and an operating budget of 2,500,000 pounds. I'm guessing that is a bigger budget than the football program at the AIS (but would be happly proven wrong). It is not surp...

Re: Junior referees
WRT inappropriate behaviour from parents and coaches, I dont know of any club who has it perfect 100% of the time, and so those who throw stones need to be little careful. Having said that, it is a worthy topic for the forum, but I would be interested in ideas as to how to manage this issue. My brot...

Re: STIC comp
Equal time is a no brainer .... it MUST happen ! And playing 1-4-3-3 must happen .... why would someone put their hand up to be a STIC coach and then do their own thing..... if its happening, they should be made to sign an agreement to say they will do both of the above ... Because they wrongly bel...

editted then ... Will this years STIC comp be different from previous years? Have the issues of playing a 4-3-3 been addressed with the coaching staff and players? :?: Are there plans for playing equal time to give all the kids a chance or is winning still the goal? :?: Also, write about teams that...

There must be something in the air... JD. I am at a loss to understand how my first post puts the boot into all previous STIC coaches. It asks a question, and you have assumed my position. As it so happens, I know for a fact, to your credit, you have coached to a 4-3-3, and ensured equal time to all...

Re: STIC comp
My lad is playing in one of the teams this weekend and the coaches have made a few things very clear which I am assuming will be followed through 1. Equal game time for every player. Each player will play 7 halves out of the 5 games. 2. Formation will be 4-3-3 3. The ball will be played out from th...

I think equal time is the most important issue, as this program is for Talent Identification.
However, there is also always interest in the results, especially for those who might not be able to get there. If the results dont matter at all, why bother scoring!!

Identification of children and cruel comments
There is a recent example where a child has been identified in this forum and cruel comments have been made. Whilst the child was not named, the details of their team and position were sufficient to allow their identification to be known. To my way of thinking, this is completely inappropriate. I im...

Re: 1-4-3-3
It seems pretty clear, that whilst a 4-3-3 structure enjoys some tactical advantages, there are other systems that can be better for winning a game. It therefore makes sense to use a different system when winning is the goal. Let's face it, there is nothing wrong with winning - it sure beats losing!...

Re: 1-4-3-3
We have a national curriculum that defines a system of play to maximise learning and skill acquisition. At a state level, teams and coaches are penalised and criticised by the FFA if they do not play to this structure. Indeed, several inter state competitions have been decided by the extra points al...

Re: 1-4-3-3
Hmmm. Having just re-read my post, I realise I should have been clearer. "So here is an idea: During trials at STIC, players are chosen on the basis of their ability to play a position or positions nominated by the player in a 4-3-3 structure. ie to be successful, they must be able to truly pla...

Re: 1-4-3-3
There is a lot of debate over this issue, and there is still some who want to argue why not 4-4-2, or another formation. For the purpose of my original post, it does not matter which formation is used. My point is why is the "designated" formation not used more, and if it is an advantage t...

Re: 1-4-3-3
This topic often becomes a debate of whether or not a 4-3-3 system is the best system to play. Typically "best" is interpreted as the system that is most likely to produce a win, or as the "best" system for development. This debate can and will go forever and i doubt there is a c...

Re: 1-4-3-3
Under 11's might be a bit hard, but if the basics aren't taught then, when should they be? I know of players in under 15's, 16's and 17's who have never played a 4-3-3 system. I have seen zone and state coaches looking to fill 4-3-3 specific positions and struggling as they have to teach the candida...

1-4-3-3
We have had years now of the 1-4-3-3 system being promoted, and yet I see many kids who have not played to it at all. If the FFA pathway is through STIC, State reperesentation, State Institutes of Sport, to a National team, and the prescribed system of play is 1-4-3-3, and this system requires some ...
