Football Federation Australia has stepped in to save North Queensland Fury, taking a majority shareholding in the struggling new A-League club.
With the Fury still $800,000 short of its $2.5 million survival target by today's deadline, the FFA stepped in to take control of the club, SBS reports.
A campaign by Townsville businesses raised $1.7 million, after the club's major investor, golf course developer Don Matheson, said he could no longer bankroll the club on his own.
A source within the FFA has reportedly confirmed Fury coach Ian Ferguson would be let go after one year with the club, while the future of marquee player Robbie Fowler remains in doubt thanks to his $1 million contract.
