Both goals came in the second half, with Reds Youth Captain Matthew Mullen continuing his fine goal scoring form with the opening goal in the 57th minute before AIS defender Brendan Hamill conceded an own goal on 72 minutes following a threatening cross from United’s Korean midfielder Inseob Shin.
The win keeps United Youth’s top four aspirations alive and gives them their second win in Canberra over the AIS this season.
In what was another highly competitive fixture between the two sides following their 4-4 draw a fortnight ago, United were made to work for the three points. Both teams had their chances but it was the Reds who managed to capitalise.
Shin relished his role for the young Reds on the left side of midfield, while fellow Hyundai A-League duo Paul Reid and Lloyd Owusu were also prominent throughout.
Adelaide United Youth’s next match is against Newcastle Jets Youth on Friday 4 December 2009 at Hindmarsh Stadium (Kick-Off 4.45pm ACDT, 5.15pm AEDT).
