Galekovic, Jamieson and Reid make Socceroo debut
12:53 PM Sun 1st Feb, 2009 - Admin
Adelaide United FC goalkeeper Eugene Galekovic, defender Scott Jamieson and midfielder Paul Reid are the latest of the club’s additions to play for the Qantas Socceroos after the trio all made their national debuts in the 0-0 draw with Indonesia in the AFC Asian Cup qualifier in Jakarta last night.

All three played the full 90 minutes in front of a massive crowd in humid and testing conditions in Jakarta, helping Australia to a hard fought point in its opening match of qualifying.

Galekovic got the nod to start between the posts for the Qantas Socceroos, while Reid played in a defensive midfield role and Jamieson complimented a four man defensive line taking up his familiar spot at left back.

In a match of few chances, Reid went close to breaking the deadlock when his curling free kick sailed just wide with 20 minutes remaining. Jamieson held his own on the left against a number of quick Indonesian wingers, while Galekovic’s renowned safe hands for United, were on display again for his country as he comfortably dealt with the few shots on goal that came his way to keep a clean sheet.

The trio follow Nathan Burns, Bruce Djite, Travis Dodd and Michael Valkanis as the other players to represent the Qantas Socceroos while contracted to Adelaide United.

Galekovic, Reid and Jamieson will return to Adelaide tomorrow before rejoining The Reds’ squad ahead of next Saturday’s blockbuster against Melbourne Victory at Hindmarsh Stadium in the 1st leg of the Hyundai A-League Major Semi Final (Kick-Off 6.30pm ACDT).

Tickets for the match are available now through VenueTix.
